CodeClan Week 7
Codeclan week 7
This week we are continuing our journey on Java learning, we have been to “introduced” to the key concepts of Object Oriented Programming likes of the Polymorphism, the Composition and the Inheritance; ironically some of the concepts we have been using and practising since week one, but we were not aware of it, OK may be not all of us, but at least I wasn’t at the time; and that made me feel this week was a perfect time to summary what I have learned for the past 6 weeks and finally put a name on it.
What I also realised was that all of the concepts that mentioned above, I had had already learned at University when I was doing my Master Degree, but unfortunately it was remained at the campus as same as the rest of my prime years, I guess people are right when they say “What happened at Uni stays at Uni.” My point is, by showing how to do things first and practise on it, once it become fluent, and then summary it with the theoretical concept seems like a better cycle of learning for me, and this time I am definitely going to take it with me.
This week definitely has been a game changing week for me, on Tuesday, we spend a whole day doing Mob Programming with Pomodoro Techniques, this exercise made me realise software development is not only about coding, there are so many soft skills which can help me become a better programmer, which I am current needing to improve on, such as time management skills which adopting Pomodoro Techniques has been a great help. I am already a big fan of it.
I truly appreciate and enjoy this course so far, in 7 weeks’ time, I have learned the basics of Ruby and Java and more importantly I have also picked up so many good habits, I can feel I have gained confident when approaching problems, hold up my nerves when speaking in front of a crowd, and equally I can feel everyone else on my cohort progressing on the same way with their own pace. I have not felt like this for a long-long time. I really treasure my time at CodeClan, and very excited about the 9 upcoming weeks.
We could use a "code clan" here in the USA, maybe help get more women involved with STEM too!
