Back to Study Mode After Working? Here’s How to Make It (Almost) Painless! Getting back into study mode after a few years of working can feel like jumping into a freezing pool. If you’re trying to shake off the rust and get back into it, here are some tips that worked for me (twice!): 1. Set a Goal 🎯 Start with why you’re studying again. Maybe it’s career growth, new skills, or a change of pace. Whatever it is, hold on to that goal—it’ll keep you going! 2. Create a Schedule ⏲️ Choose times that actually fit your life now, not your old college routine. A regular schedule makes studying feel like less of a chore and more of a habit. 3. Eliminate Distractions 🚫 Time to put the phone on silent and close those extra tabs! Find a quiet spot, free of distractions, so you can actually focus. 4. Take Breaks ⛳ To stay sharp, schedule small breaks. Try the Pomodoro Technique: 25 minutes of study, 5-minute break. Keeps you fresh and helps avoid burnout. 5. Use Technology (Smartly) 💻 Let apps and online platforms be your study helpers. Flashcards, notes apps, and online courses can make learning a whole lot easier. 6. Find a Study Group 📚 Studying with others keeps you motivated and accountable. Join a group like Brain Berries, or find a buddy to stay on track together. 7. Be Patient ⌛ Getting back into the groove isn’t instant. Give it time, stay consistent, and remember: every bit of progress counts. If you’ve been through this before, share your own tips below. We could all use a few extra tricks! And for more on career, finance, and study tips, follow Keshav Gupta. You won’t want to miss it (again)!

9 proven strategies for learning that I advise my students so they learn faster and remember more People who know how to learn achieve... Deeper understanding of complex topics Balance between work and personal life A competitive edge in their careers Learning is a skill. And like any skill, you can improve it with the right techniques. Here are my 9 science-backed tips to transform the way you learn: 1. Plan your study sessions 🗓️ ↳ Break tasks into smaller, focused chunks with clear goals. ↳ Dedicated, distraction-free time beats cramming every time. 2. Active recall 💡 ↳ Quiz yourself before you learn to identify gaps and spark curiosity. ↳ Then, test yourself after studying to strengthen memory and understanding. 3. Spaced repetition 📅 ↳ Review material at intervals over days or weeks. ↳ This "forget-to-learn" approach helps information stick long-term. 4. Eliminate passive learning 🚫 ↳ Highlighting and rereading feel productive, but don't work. ↳ Instead, summarize key points in your own words or test yourself. 5. Prioritize deep work 💻 🍅 ↳ Focus on one high-impact learning task at a time. ↳ Use tools like the Pomodoro technique to stay in flow. 6. Create visual aids 🖼️ ↳ Turn concepts into diagrams, mind maps, or charts. ↳ Visualizing information helps you understand and remember it more effectively. 7. Teach what you learn 🎓 ↳ Explaining a concept to someone else highlights gaps in your understanding. ↳ Use the Feynman Technique to simplify complex topics. 8. Use tools to track your progress 📊 ↳ Create a system to measure your learning, like a checklist or habit tracker. ↳ Seeing progress motivates you and ensures you stay consistent. 9. Sleep, healthy diet, and exercise matter 💤🏃♂️ ↳ Sleep, a healthy diet (cut sugar), and exercise boost focus and cognitive function. ↳ Make them part of your daily learning routine (have apples, bananas, and nuts on your desk instead of chocolate and chips) Learning isn't about studying harder; it's about studying smarter. Pick tips that work for you and learn something today. P.S. What is your favorite learning tip? Let me know in the comments ⬇️ ♻️ Repost this if you found it helpful. P.S.2 Yes, I actually use a Pomodoro timer 🤓

🚀 𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧-𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 🚀 As the placement season approaches, I've been reflecting on the strategies that have helped me stay focused and excel in my preparation journey. Here are some tips that might just resonate with you: [1] 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐈𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐲 𝐒𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞: Create a dedicated, clutter-free zone where you can immerse yourself in your studies. A comfortable chair, good lighting, and organized materials can work wonders in boosting your productivity. [2] 𝐒𝐞𝐭 𝐂𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐆𝐨𝐚𝐥𝐬: Define specific daily or weekly goals for your preparation. This not only gives you a sense of direction but also a feeling of accomplishment as you tick them off your list. [3] 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐁𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠: Divide your study time into focused blocks, say 60-90 minutes, followed by a short break. During these blocks, commit to working solely on your preparation tasks. The ticking timer can be a motivating force! [4] 𝐃𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐞𝐭𝐨𝐱: Social media, notifications, and random online browsing can be major distractions. Consider using apps or browser extensions that block these distractions during your study hours. [5] 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐳𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧: Identify the topics or areas you need to cover and prioritize them based on your strengths and weaknesses. Create a study plan that allocates sufficient time to each subject. [6] 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬: Mindfulness techniques, such as deep breathing and meditation, can help improve your focus and attention span. A calm mind is a productive mind! [7] 𝐑𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟: After completing a challenging task or achieving a milestone, treat yourself to a short break or a small reward. This positive reinforcement can motivate you to stay on track. [8] 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐲 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞: Share your goals with a friend or mentor who can hold you accountable. Regular check-ins can provide the encouragement and support you need. [9] 𝐋𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐭 𝐌𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠: Focusing on one task at a time leads to better results. Avoid juggling multiple tasks simultaneously, as it can hinder your ability to grasp concepts deeply. [10] 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐲 𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐲𝐥𝐞: Adequate sleep, regular exercise, and a balanced diet are essential for maintaining your energy levels and cognitive function. Remember, preparation is not just about acquiring knowledge but also about developing the right mindset and habits. Embrace the journey, stay positive, and don't let distractions deter you from reaching your full potential. 🌟 Feel free to share your own strategies and experiences in the comments below. How I Passed the PMP Exam I didn’t pass the PMP exam because I’m a genius. I passed because I treated it like a real project. I set a deadline, built a plan, and added contingency buffers. Here’s exactly what I did: → I gave myself 60 days → Broke the PMBOK guide into weekly sprints → Took over 1,200 practice questions → Reviewed my wrong answers more than my right ones → Simulated the 4-hour exam environment twice → Used weekends for deep dives, weekdays for review → Focused heavily on mindset, not just memorization But the biggest shift? I stopped studying to pass a test. I started preparing to think like a project leader. It wasn't about definitions. It was about decisions. Scenario after scenario, I practiced choosing what a calm, confident PM would do under pressure. The result? A passing grade and way more confidence at work. If you're studying for the PMP now, here's my advice: 🎯 Treat it like a project 🧠 Focus on how to think, not what to memorize 🪫 Don’t wait until you feel ready. You’ll never be. What helped you most when studying for your PMP?

Conquering Exams & Deadlines. Balancing Work & Study as an Audit/Accountant professional. Juggling work and professional qualification studies is a familiar challenge for early-career auditors and accountants. Striking a healthy balance is possible with the right strategies. Here are some tips to help you excel in both areas:   1. Plan & Prioritize:   You need to craft a study schedule. Block out dedicated study time in your calendar, considering your work commitments and personal needs. Be realistic and flexible, adjusting as necessary. Always prioritize your tasks. Use tools like the Eisenhower Matrix to categorize your work and study tasks based on urgency and importance. Focus on tackling the most critical tasks first.   **This tip might sound familiar, but I can assure you it's practical and made a real difference for me during my first three years in audit while juggling work and studying. This isn't just motivational fluff, it's actionable advice I've personally tested and found effective (only if you stick to it though!).   2. Time Management:   Embrace the Pomodoro Technique, focus intensely for 25 minutes, followed by a short break, to maximize productivity and avoid burnout. Also, make sure to utilize commute time, audio lectures, study materials, or flashcards during your commute can make excellent use of those "in-between" moments.   **Early in my career, I honed my test-taking skills by diligently utilizing my commute time to practice with test banks. As I travelled two hours each way to a client in Dubai, whether by bus or tube, I dedicated that period to focused practice. This consistent (aprox) three hours of daily practice on the move significantly contributed to my success on the CPA exam.   3. Leverage Resources & Support:   Seek employer support. Many employers offer study leave, flexible work arrangements, or even financial assistance. Don't hesitate to inquire about their policies. Don't just stick to textbooks! Supplement your learning with diverse resources like online articles, videos, and discussions. This broader exposure helps you absorb and retain new concepts faster.   4. Self-Care is Key:   Prioritize healthy habits: Maintain a balanced diet, get enough sleep, and engage in regular exercise to keep your mind and body sharp. Schedule "me-time": Dedicate time for activities you enjoy to prevent burnout and maintain a positive outlook.   **Cross country running was a great way for me to stay balanced between work, studies, and personal life. I miss it!   Balancing work and studies require dedication, but the rewards are significant. Always keep this in mind!   #auditing #accounting #professionalqualification #worklifebalance #careeradvice   Feel free to share your experiences and additional tips in the comments below!

As exam period dawns upon this time of the year, across interactions with students, one of the common theme that emerges is how does one prioritize. The human brains seeks pleasure over pain and hence tends to defer what is more difficult. This usually is the cause for stress and last minute rush. This post is for all students in my network. 🐸 "Eat Your Frog" - a curious yet powerful metaphor for mastering your to-do list, especially when it comes to students and exam preparation. 📚 Have you ever faced a mountain of study material, feeling overwhelmed by where to start? The concept of "eating your frog" suggests that you tackle your most challenging task - or your 'frog' - first thing. It's about getting the toughest job out of the way to make the rest of your day or study session more productive and less daunting. Why is this approach so effective? ✅ Boosts Productivity: Starting with the hardest subject or topic clears the path for smoother studying ahead. Once your "frog" is out of the way, you'll be empowered to handle other tasks with increased confidence and focus. ✅ Reduces Procrastination: It's human nature to avoid unpleasant tasks. However, by confronting your "frog" head-on, you nip procrastination in the bud. This strategy is crucial during exam preparations when time is of the essence. ✅ Builds Momentum: Completing the most dreaded task first can give you a sense of accomplishment that propels you through your study sessions with positive energy. So, how can you apply "eating your frog" to your study routine? 📝 Prioritize: At the start of each study session, identify the topic that you find most challenging or have been putting off. 🕒 Set a Timer: Allocate a specific time to focus solely on your "frog." This could be 25 minutes of intense study followed by a 5-minute break - a technique known as the Pomodoro Technique. 👉 Just Start: Often, the anticipation of the task is worse than the task itself. Dive in, and you'll soon find yourself making progress. 🎯 Set Goals: Break down the material into manageable sections and set mini-goals. Reward yourself when you achieve each one. 🔄 Reflect and Adjust: After your study session, reflect on what worked well and what you could improve for next time. Remember, "eating your frog" is more than a quirky phrase; it's a philosophy that can transform your study habits and outcomes. As Mark Twain famously said, "Eat a live frog first thing in the morning, and nothing worse will happen to you the rest of the day." Students, I urge you to embrace this concept. Start your study sessions with the toughest subject. You'll not only enhance your academic prowess but also cultivate a powerful habit that transcends the classroom and prepares you for the challenges of life beyond. Are you ready to eat your frog? 🐸💡 #studentsuccess #studytips #exampreparation #personaldevelopment #linkedineducation

In one of my recent career coaching sessions with working professionals who have decided to pursue higher studies, a learner shared his challenge of balancing work, family, and study. He felt overwhelmed by the demands of his job, academic responsibilities, and personal life. This is a common concern, and it's essential to address it to achieve a healthy work-life balance. 𝐄𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐢𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤-𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐁𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 1. 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐳𝐞 𝐓𝐚𝐬𝐤𝐬: Begin your day by listing tasks in order of importance. Focus on high-priority tasks first to ensure critical work gets done, reducing stress later in the day. 2. 𝐒𝐞𝐭 𝐂𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐁𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬: Define specific work hours, study time, and personal time. Communicate these boundaries with colleagues, professors, and family members to avoid interruptions and maintain a clear distinction between different aspects of your life. 3. 𝐔𝐬𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐓𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐬: Leverage tools like calendars, to-do lists, and time-tracking apps to organize your day efficiently. Apps like Trello, Asana, or Google Calendar can help manage tasks and deadlines for both work and study. 4. 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐥𝐞 𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐬: Incorporate regular breaks into your daily routine to recharge. Short breaks during work or study hours can boost productivity and prevent burnout. 5. 𝐃𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐓𝐚𝐬𝐤𝐬: Don't hesitate to delegate tasks when possible. Sharing responsibilities at work and at home can free up time and reduce your workload, allowing you to focus on essential tasks. 6. 𝐀𝐯𝐨𝐢𝐝 𝐌𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠: Focus on one task at a time to enhance productivity and reduce errors. Multitasking can often lead to decreased efficiency and increased stress. 7. 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞: Schedule time for hobbies, exercise, and relaxation. Prioritizing self-care is crucial for maintaining a healthy work-life balance. Implementing these time management techniques can significantly improve your ability to balance work, family, and study, leading to greater satisfaction and well-being. Remember, finding the right balance is an ongoing process, and it's okay to adjust your approach as needed. 💙 #worklifebalance #timemanagement #productivitytips #selfcare #boundarysetting #focus #stayorganized #careercoaching #professionaldevelopment #lifetips

“I was scoring 30% in CFA mocks. Three weeks later, I was scoring 75%. Here’s exactly what changed.” Most people think the key to clearing the CFA is studying more. But what if I told you the real game-changer was how I practised? I did everything “right” in my first attempt: ✔️ Attended lectures ✔️ Made detailed notes ✔️ Revised religiously But when I finally started solving questions, I couldn’t answer most of them. Even the ones from topics I felt confident about. That moment hit me hard. All that effort… and I couldn’t even apply it? Then came my lightbulb moment. 💡 I wasn't just answering questions wrong - I was PRACTISING wrong. Instead of rushing through questions to "complete" them, I started: - Analysing WHY I missed each question - Understanding the REASONING behind correct answers - Identifying patterns in my mistakes - Rewriting explanations in my own words - Creating a "mistake journal" for tough concepts Then I did something painful but necessary Reset ALL my practice questions and started over, topic by topic. The transformation was stunning. My mock scores jumped from 30% to 75% in just three weeks, with time to spare! Practice, Practice, Practice” — Everyone says it, but no one tells you how to do it right 📌 Here's how to practice EFFECTIVELY for your CFA exams: 1. Start practising questions IMMEDIATELY after learning a topic (don't wait until the end) 2. For every wrong answer, write down the concept you misunderstood 3. With 6-8 weeks remaining, reset all practice questions and attempt again by topic 4. Track difficult questions and rewrite explanations in your notes 5. Focus on understanding WHY an answer is correct, not just memorising it 6. Remember: You don't need to know everything - just master what matters most (which reveals itself through practice) “Practice” isn’t just doing 1,000 questions. It’s sitting with 1 question until you truly understand it.” There are 3,000+ practice questions in the CFA ecosystem, but only 180 show up on exam day. Master the practice, and exam day questions will feel like meeting old friends. What transformed YOUR CFA journey? Comment below! And feel free to DM if you’re stuck — I’m always happy to help. #finance #investmentbanking #linkedin #cfa
