    Every weekday at 7:30 AM, I get a one-paragraph brief for every meeting on my calendar. Last email threads with each participant, open asks, unresolved questions. Claude wrote it while I was asleep. Anthropic shipped three automation tools in four weeks. Two serve you individually. One serves your whole team. The routing decision is simple. Work needs your local files? Cowork Scheduled Tasks. Runs on your machine, reads ~/Documents. Needs to fire while your laptop is closed? Claude Routines. Cloud infrastructure. Competitor checks at 7 AM, sentiment scans on Monday morning, pre-meeting briefs before you wake up. Pro plan gets 5 runs/day. Max gets 15. Needs to serve more than just you? Managed Agents. Every PM queries the same agent, each with their own session and audit trail. Asana, Notion, Rakuten, and Sentry are already running these in production. Rakuten went from quarterly releases to biweekly. The reasoning step is what separates this from Zapier. A Zapier zap chains deterministic actions. A Routine reads a competitor pricing page, decides whether something meaningful changed, and writes a summary in your voice. Different category of work.     If you didn't see the news, California just finalized its California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) regulations on ADMT (automated-decision-making tools...think routing, scoring, profiling). Europe already has the AI Act. Singapore, Brazil, and Canada are next in line with similar AI-oversight bills. The takeaway is simple: If an algorithm is going to nudge a customer or rate an employee, regulators now want to know how, why, and with what data. Oh, and they also now expect an auditable paper trail. If you haven't started designing for these regulations, here are a few things to start doing. Like, today: First, whether you like it or not, dual jurisdiction is now the new normal, and U.S. rules no longer lag behind Europe. An “EU Compliance” badge won't cut it when California or the FTC asks for your ADMT impact assessment. Design for the regulatory extremes, and partner with your Risk and Legal teams to see if that takes care of the middle part of the regulatory curve. But make sure you’re ticking all the boxes. Second, explainability should now be a service level to be defined and to meet. This means that risk assessments, opt-outs, human-override flows, and data-provenance logs have to be part of every release. Treat them just like uptime and latency. Third, employee experience is officially in scope. Tools that allocate work shifts or score performance need the same transparency you’d give to customer-facing models. This is a really big deal. It will improve employee trust but creates extra work that needs to be planned for, prioritized, and resourced. Last but not least, and my "always-on" advice: start small. Just map one high-impact workflow (e.g., complaint escalation, agent performance dashboards, etc.). Document the data used, the decision logic, and the path to human appeal. And if you can’t explain it to a regulator in under 5 PPT slides, refactor before you scale it. It's way better to audit yourself now than to have a regulator do it later. While helpful, these often overshadow the true economic driver for most companies: AI automation. AI automation uses LLM-powered solutions to handle tedious, knowledge-rich back-office tasks that drain resources. It may not be as eye-catching as image or video generation, but it’s where real enterprise value will be created in the near term. Consider ChatGPT: at its core, there is a large language model (LLM) like GPT-3 or GPT-4, designed to be a helpful assistant. However, these same models can be fine-tuned to perform a variety of tasks, from translating text to routing emails, extracting data, and more. The key is their versatility. By leveraging custom LLMs for complex automations, you unlock possibilities that weren’t possible before. Tasks like looking up information, routing data, extracting insights, and answering basic questions can all be automated using LLMs, freeing up employees and generating ROI on your GenAI investment. Starting with internal process automation is a smart way to build AI capabilities, resolve issues, and track ROI before external deployment. As infrastructure becomes easier to manage and costs decrease, the potential for AI automation continues to grow. For business leaders, identifying bottlenecks that are tedious for employees and prone to errors is the first step. Then, apply LLMs and AI solutions to streamline these operations. Remember, LLMs go beyond text—they can be used in voice, image recognition, and more. For example, Ushur is using LLMs to extract information from medical documents and feed it into backend systems efficiently—a task that was historically difficult for traditional AI systems.     What connects Industrial IoT, Application and Data Integration, and Process Intelligence? During my time at Software AG, my attention has shifted in line with the company's strategic priorities and the changing needs of the market. My focus on Industrial IoT, moved into Application and Data Integration, and now I specialise on Business Process Management and Process Intelligence through ARIS. While these areas may appear to address different challenges, a common thread runs through them. Take a typical production process as an example. From raw material intake to finished goods delivery, there are countless interdependencies, processes and workflows, and just as many data sources. Industrial IoT plays a key role by capturing real-time data from machines and sensors on the shop floor. This data provides visibility into equipment performance, production rates, energy usage, and more. It enables predictive maintenance, reduces downtime, and supports continuous improvement through real-time monitoring and analytics. Application and Data Integration brings together data from across the value chain, including sensor data, manufacturing execution systems, ERP platforms, quality management systems, logistics, and supply chain management. Synchronising these systems with integration creates a unified, reliable view of production operations. This cohesion is essential for automation, traceability, quality management and responsive decision-making across departments and geographies. Process Management, including modelling, and governance, risk, and controls, takes a different yet equally critical perspective. Modelling helps design optimal process flows, while governance frameworks ensure controls are in place to manage quality, risk, and enforce conformance for standardisation. Process mining uncovers bottlenecks, rework loops, and compliance deviations. It focuses on how the production process actually runs, rather than how it was designed to operate. Despite their different vantage points, each of these domains works toward the same goal: aggregating, normalising, and structuring data to transform it into information that can be easily consumed to create meaningful, actionable insights. If your organisation is capturing process-related data through isolated tools, such as diagramming or collaboration platforms, quality management systems, risk registers, or role-based work instructions, it is likely you are only seeing part of the picture. Without a unified approach to integrating and analysing this data, the deeper insights remain fragmented or out of reach.     How SAP Connects with the Bank After Running F110 (Automatic Payment Run) In SAP, TCode F110 is used to automate vendor/customer payments. But what happens after you click “Execute”? How does the money actually move from SAP to the bank? 🤔 Here’s a quick breakdown of how SAP interfaces with the bank post-payment: Step-by-Step Flow: 1. Payment Proposal & Run (F110) SAP selects open items due for payment based on parameters (e.g., due date, vendor bank details, payment method). After review, you execute the payment run. This generates payment documents and clearing entries in SAP. 2. Payment Medium Workbench (PMW) SAP then generates a payment file (e.g., XML, MT940, or any format required by the bank) using the Payment Medium Workbench. Format depends on the DMEE tree and bank’s requirements. 3. Transfer to Bank via Interface The file is transferred to the bank via SFTP or a middleware like SAP PI/PO, SAP CPI, or external tools. The bank receives this file and processes the payment (RTGS/NEFT/ACH/etc.) 4. Bank Response Some setups include a return interface where the bank sends a confirmation/status report, which is then uploaded back to SAP to update payment status or generate bank reconciliation (via TCode: FF_5). #Example: Let’s say your company is paying vendor ABC ₹5,00,000. You schedule a payment run in F110. SAP generates a PAIN.001 XML file through DMEE. This file is securely transmitted to HDFC Bank via SFTP. HDFC processes the payment and debits your company’s account. Later, HDFC sends a PAIN.002 (status update) and MT940/BAI2 for reconciliation, which SAP reads to update clearing status.     I recently spent time getting more hands-on with LLM & Agentic AI engineering through Ed Donner's training. Instead of stopping at examples, I built a mini multi-agent logistics delivery optimization framework. Building real AI systems quickly makes one thing clear: 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙙 𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙩 𝙞𝙨𝙣’𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙢𝙤𝙙𝙚𝙡 — 𝙞𝙩’𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙖𝙧𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙩𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚 𝙙𝙚𝙘𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 𝙖𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙 𝙞𝙩. A few practical lessons: 1. 𝗟𝗟𝗠 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗳𝗮𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝘃𝘀 𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆. Trade-offs: • reasoning maturity for complex planning • context window & memory strategy • proprietary models vs smaller open models • infra costs (GPU/hosting) vs token-based API costs • tool-calling reliability & structured output adherence • benchmark performance vs real task behavior • model stability across releases In practice, it becomes a hybrid strategy: 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿/𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗿𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝘀𝗸𝘀 + 𝗦𝗟𝗠 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗲-𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗱𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺𝘀 + 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘅 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. 𝟮. In reality, simplicity, latency, security and reliability matter more than novelty. • Use orchestration frameworks only where coordination complexity exists • Combine prompts with structured outputs to reduce ambiguity • Watch serialization and tool-call overhead — they impact latency and UX • Reduce unnecessary LLM calls when deterministic code can solve the task Besides lowering token cost, this improves context efficiency, letting models focus on real reasoning. Sometimes best architecture decision is 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙤𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙣𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙡𝙖𝙮𝙚𝙧. 3. 𝗕𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹𝘀 ≠ 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 Smaller models with fine-tuning on domain data can perform more consistently than larger ones. Fine-tuning helps when: • tasks are repetitive but require precision • domain vocabulary is specialized • prompts become fragile But 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗲-𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗼 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱. Base model upgrades trigger retesting and partial rewrites. 4. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗴𝗮𝗽: 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗼𝘁𝘆𝗽𝗲 → 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 Demos are easy. Production requires 𝙚𝙫𝙖𝙡𝙪𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙛𝙧𝙖𝙢𝙚𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠𝙨, 𝙤𝙗𝙨𝙚𝙧𝙫𝙖𝙗𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙮, 𝙨𝙚𝙘𝙪𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙮, 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚, 𝙘𝙤𝙨𝙩 𝙜𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚 & 𝙜𝙪𝙖𝙧𝙙𝙧𝙖𝙞𝙡𝙨. That’s where most engineering effort goes. 𝟱.
