Reacting to Change

I am at the beginning of a highly-anticipated journey: my Full-Time MBA, spanning over the next two years. This moment has been a result of the work done in the last 12-14 months. As excited as I am about this new journey, there is something that I have been thinking about for the last two weeks.

We have all seen how change affects different people in a unique way. Regardless of the situation, change, as a concept, makes some people more uncomfortable than the others. Why is that? I am sure there are scientific reasons for the same. But, I wanted to put it down in simple words so that anybody struggling to handle a change in their life can read this and get an idea of how to think and react to it.

I was very nervous when I landed in the US. The thought of staying away from home and everybody I know was not letting me enjoy my first-ever international journey.

In hindsight, I realized that instead of focusing on the stressful part of change, we should try to shift our perspective in order to see the positive side.

Another way to handle change would be to find ways to increase your self-confidence. This can be done by creating a to-do list in order to understand what needs to be done to adjust to the situation. Then, go for the lowest hanging fruit.

Going for the lowest-hanging fruit ensures that you complete the easier tasks first, which propels you forward till the time you enter cruise control mode.

Then, it is just a case of maintaining a structure and being organized with your resources.

Try creating a standard template of your new life and start putting in the lego blocks. Sooner than later, you will have your own castle which is stronger than ever.

The above three points basically does the following: disrupts the negative momentum in your life, stabilizes and then creates positive momentum. The key is to empathize and give yourself some time.

I hope that the article reaches someone in need and gives them the reassurance that they are not alone in feeling scared when their life changes. It is human to feel vulnerable. What does not kill you makes you stronger.

Stay in the game, and you shall feel the tide shift in your favor.

Good initiative Surya as you always do....Changes is must in all aspects to keep the process Going and Growing..👍

Change is definitely a must for better opportunities and optimistic life. While changes is applied to almost everything but sometimes we have to decide is it worthy enough and take decisions accordingly.

Great insights. Also very applicable when organisations need to undergo changes and transformation
