Your Level 1 ≠ Somebody's Level 100

This article is a summary of sorts; a summary of what 2022 has taught me. This is probably the biggest lesson I learnt last year.

Comparisons are commonplace in a world where everyone is connected to everybody. Right from social media to in-person relationships, we tend to compare ourselves to people in our immediate environment. Even though preaching that comparisons are useless is very easy, it is difficult to practice in real life but not impossible.

The reason why people feel discontent is because they compare themselves to people who are at a different stage in their lives. This is almost like comparing a beginner guitar player with a pro, who has been playing it for the last 25 years.

It is unfair to be compared to somebody who has achieved mastery over a skill or has something you desire.

I came to a new place looking to start a new journey. I have seen people who have already passed the "checkpoints" that I have wanted to achieve. At times, I caught myself comparing my current self with them. But, I quickly realized that instead of comparisons, it would serve me better to take it as a motivation to keep going and try to learn from different people about how they achieved their goals.

I start 2023 with a sense of optimism and belief that if I put in the work needed to become a better person, I will get the results sooner than later. That is the most I can do. That is the most anybody can do.
