Break

Today I was staring at my calendar during a meeting and saddened to see there was not a break in sight. In the middle of a call one of my next meetings moved out two weeks and I couldn't have been more delighted. I had a series of tasks I could have done during that magical free hour - but instead I walked the dog.

a pause in work or during an activity or event.

A break is so important (although it always does remind me of that Friends episode where Rachel and Ross may or may not have been on a break). There are so many different areas of life that can benefit from a break. It might be something as simple as I described above as a break in schedule. Or it could be skipping running and the gym this morning because my body needs a break from working out.

During 2020, my husband I were home ALL DAY EVERY DAY. I found that at certain points I reached the end of my rope and my husband would tell me to leave, go out, drive in the car and just take a break. It didn't mean that there was anything wrong - but simply we each needed a break from these four walls. Honestly - even the dog needed a break sometimes and needed us to leave without her occasionally so she could just sleep on the couch without being told how cute she is.

At work, it's SO easy to work all day, every day. As a global company I feel the need to be online when my team in India is but then also when my team on the West Coast is. Lunch is sometimes the only time I can meet with some of my busier colleagues. What I quickly realized is that the more hours I spend a day the less efficient and effective I become. Sometimes it's that 30 min dog walk, or a 30 min show on TV allows my brain to rest just a bit and allows me to come back better and more energized for my next tasks.

And with that - #WednesdaysWithWeppel is taking a BREAK next week :) While I can't encourage you ALL to take a week off next week I do encourage you all to take a break each day for a walk, a show, a nap, a workout or whatever refills your cup.

What is the best way for you to take a break and refill your cup?
