Pause.

Pause.

Time is passing so fast. We don't remember what we did yesterday - let alone last week, last month or last year. The technology that is supposed to make life easier or better has created a sense of urgency that weighs on us. The pressure to do more and be more is constant. As a result, people are becoming more overwhelmed, anxious and burned out.

So for now. PAUSE and:

  1. Take time to breathe for the next 60 seconds -- REALLY DO THIS. (Dr. Andrew Weil recommends the 4-7-8 or relaxing Breath Exercise. To do this you breathe in through your nose for 4 seconds. Hold your breath for 7 seconds. Breathe out through your mouth for 8 seconds making a "whooshing" sound. Then repeat two more times.)
  2. Take time to think and plan. (When was the last time you spent at least 15 minutes thinking about: What do I want? What is really important? What is working? What isn't working? What might I do differently next time?)
  3. Take time to really connect. (Who is important to you personally? Professionally? Which relationships need attention? What can and will you do to connect or reconnect within the next 24-48 hours?)
  4. Take time for gratitude. (What do you appreciate? What are you thankful for? Who are you thankful for? How will you show your gratitude today?)
  5. Take time to celebrate. (When was the last time you really celebrated a key milestone or success? What milestones or accomplishments have you achieved recently? What -- or who -- will you celebrate this week?)
  6. Take time for a break. (When was the last time you took a break in the middle of the day? A vacation day -- just for you? When will you take a break?)
  7. Finally, take time to notice. Notice other people. Notice what your body is telling you. Notice how just hitting the pause button periodically can quickly shift your attitude, emotions, creativity and state of mind.

Now -- take time to build these (intentional) pauses into your professional and personal life and you will increase the quality of your experiences, relationships and results. (HINT: Block time in your calendar to do these things in your calendar to show they are a priority. Many successful people build these into their morning and/or daily routines or plans.)

(Now - UNpause.)
