    A year ago, Marc Benioff stood in front of 45,000 Dreamforce attendees and said automating with AI was “easy and quick.” He even hinted that Salesforce might not need to hire more software engineers because AI agents could handle the work. Fast forward to Dreamforce 2025, the message is different. On the same stage, he admitted adoption “takes time” and that AI innovation is moving faster than customer readiness to deploy it in production. Salesforce even had to bring back a technical team to help customers adopt AI - a team Benioff had previously cut when the hype suggested it wouldn’t be needed. The technology itself isn’t the problem. Models are more capable than ever, and innovation hasn’t slowed down. The challenge is what happens after the demo. Large companies can’t just plug AI into their systems overnight. They need to restructure data, rewire architecture, and most importantly - build trust. Enterprises move cautiously for a reason. Without security and safety guardrails, robust testing, clear governance, and alignment to business goals, AI can’t be scaled responsibly. That’s why adoption is lagging: not because the tools aren’t powerful, but because the foundations of security, reliability, and oversight are still catching up. The models have demonstrated their capabilities. What’s missing is the trust, safety, and alignment that let businesses feel confident putting AI at the heart of their operations. Until those pieces are solved, adoption will never match the pace of innovation.

    Alaska's AI probate assistant took 15 months to build, not because of ambition, but because AI consistently fabricated legal guidance. What the Alaska Court System learned about AI's real limitations is worth paying attention to. The Alaska Virtual Assistant (AVA) project was supposed to take three months. The 12 month delay wasn't bureaucratic friction, it was the relentless technical problem of keeping an AI from confidently lying to users in a legal context where accuracy determines outcomes. When a chatbot advised probate seekers to contact a nonexistent Alaska law school, the team realized they couldn't simply deploy AI and hope. Hallucinations plagued the development regardless of which AI model the team used. The chatbot would reference information outside its restricted knowledge base and fabricating plausible sounding but entirely false guidance. Since probate advice carries real stakes for vulnerable people navigating estate cases, the team had to rebuild their approach entirely, restricting the system to reference only Alaska Court System probate documents and nothing else. The Alaska team discovered that achieving 99% accuracy required meticulous content review, rigorous testing, human oversight at scale, and continuous refinement with legal and technical experts. As one project leader noted, "It was just so very labor-intensive to do this." But it was achievable and this is why we see a 95% failure rate on AI deployments. Only a handful have the grit to continue, the knowledge to reduce hallucinations and continuous improvement systems in place to iterate until successful.     Anthropic built a model so powerful, they are not releasing it due to security concerns. Claude Mythos Preview is real, but only 12 partners can access it. Anthropic published a 243-page report (dropped in comments) explaining why. In weeks, it found: • 27-year-old OpenBSD bugs • 16-year-old FFmpeg flaws • full Linux kernel escapes This should worry anyone putting AI into production systems. The same capability that finds zero-days this fast can also create them. An earlier version already: • escaped its sandbox • got online • emailed a researcher • hid its actions It knew it was being deceptive. They trained it out. But capabilities are scaling faster than safety. If you're building AI agents today, the bar needs to go up: guardrails, sandboxing, monitoring, kill switches, air-gaps. Capability is no longer the primary bottleneck. Control is.

    After talking to hundreds of AI teams, I've noticed the same 3 problems come up every time. 1️⃣ The Cost Problem - Scaling fast, bill growing faster than revenue - The model they need would destroy their margins - The cheaper one isn't good enough - They're stuck in the middle 2️⃣ The Compliance Problem - Legal won't let customer data leave their infrastructure - One model deprecation away from losing control of their stack - They don't need savings. They need sovereignty. 3️⃣ The Quality Problem - Cost is fine. Compliance is fine. - But the product isn't where it needs to be. So they wait. Wait for OpenAI to release something better. Wait for Anthropic to close the gap. Wait to get lucky. That's the most common one. And the most dangerous. If your product has potential and quality is the bottleneck, you don't wait for a provider to solve your problem. You train a model on your own data, and you go get it.
