Unearthing the Value of Data

Unearthing the Value of Data

The topic of data is never boring.  The impact of data, of information, has always been profound - and really we are only at the very beginning.  Today there are infinite possibilities of measuring, analyzing and learning from all the data that is being collected from just about everything.

The more data is accessible, the more questions arise on how to use it, share it, and leverage it. Then there are the philosophical questions, who owns the data and who has what rights to do what with it.  Despite some of the challenges regarding data rights, data protection, and privacy, Big Data has already had a significant impact on society, on how we work, and live. But there is more to come.

I believe that the right insights and capabilities delivered in the right way will make every person in the role they play – a store manager, a repair engineer, a doctor, a sales executive – great at their job.   This is one of the coming net results of big data, analytics, machine learning, AI and natural user interfaces.  This will be a generational change in software.

The intelligence-enabled applications will observe the vast diverse set of data, will understand it in a way that is relevant to people in various roles driving business, making decisions, and just doing their jobs. They will learn from that interaction, and will take action based on past experiences.   This is why data is never boring - as we journey deeper into this Big Data and intelligence driven future in the enterprise, everything will turn on its head and it is not often that you get the opportunity to be at the forefront of something this significant.

You can read more about this on my two part blog: The Dichotomy of Risks and Benefits of Big Data – Part I and Part II.

I agree Quentin except that I think that it's more profound than a generational change
