"How to get your a** kicked" is the title of a book I'm writing, the theme applies here, and Ben's story is a story worth telling. In real life, you'll get worked over.
There is no way to cheat
In my experience, easy things are lame = easy is least valuable. I boxed and coached for 20+ years and seeing in hindsight, the easy fights I won are the fights I talk about the least.
No one cares about easy
What's more impressive, climbing Mt Everest or the gofer hill in your back yard? = Everest = Because you might die in the process = the dying part is most significant, not the 10mins spent on the Summit.
Its those who take a beating and keep going who win. The entitled are only entitled to mediocrity.
David beat Goliath = We talk about it because David was meant to lose. David wasn't meant to win. The value of the win is depended on the probability of lose.
Humans default to a positivity biases and a default perspection of winning. In boxing, 80% of adults walking through the door consider themselves untouchable. This phase lasts a few weeks before they hit the 1st wall of reality.
No one is that cool
The grit, desire, and determination is life's real filter. No one knows which Mountains they'll need to climb and in turn, no one knows if they'll survive the journey. Winning is the journey, not the destination.
Most people are weak
Aligned with 20+ years of fighting, I perceive most tuff guys as little dogs yipping through a gate at the strangers walking buy. I've experienced experiences that changed my perspective in ways that aren't coming back.
Once you know what you can handle, no one can stop you.
I was picturing military boot camp writing this article. Most perceive boot camp as a necessary necessity of joining the military. Few join military for the boot camp = embrace the suck.
