Mindset: Get Reframe

Mindset: Get Reframe

Rethinking, staying calm and running into problems have all been recent topics. One theme that has occurred a lot with students, family and friends is escaping negative thinking by shifting to a reframe of the negative thoughts. It has also been a frequent question of how to best do it from followers of this newsletter.

What is reframing? Reframing is a method of problem solving where a new perspective is introduced for improved insight or idea generation. How does reframing help when it comes to negative thinking? It is all about identifying the negative patterns and then change can happen.

Dwelling: You repeat negative thoughts or a bad experience over and over in your mind and begin to lose the sight of the positive things around you. Reframe: Replace the thought(s) with happy thoughts. Make a list of things that make you happy or list of blessings and refer to it frequently.

Magnifying: You overreact to a minor issue that is common. Overgeneralization can be in play. Reframe: Focus on the big picture in life and be able to forgive yourself for mistakes. Learn and grow.

All-or-none: You believe that everything is exactly right or dead wrong. You think of things as a complete success or a complete failure. Reframe: Remember to give yourself a break and have a growth mindset.

Mentality is a person's particular way of thinking about things. Reframing is all mental. It takes practice and consistency but can be done with frequency.
