"If Plan A isn't working, I have Plan B, Plan C and even Plan D." Serena Williams
There is nothing like a new year to jump start ambition. I know where I work- the changing of the calendar year is impossible to ignore. We've got year over year predictions, wish lists and just plain optimism. We have new initiatives, fresh incentives and a whole lotta mojo. Which is as it should be.
There are three kinds of people in this world: Those that make something happen, those that watch something happen and those that don't even realize something happened.
Some people won't even realize its a new year. They will grapple with the same old fears, the same old habits and get the same old results. This isn't a definition of consistency, but exhaustion. Lord, I have been this person. So deep in it, I never even realize I have a choice. It was comfortable on the hamster wheel. Until I realized I wasn't going anywhere. But that has its comforts too. Maybe if we pimp out our hamster wheel we won't notice we aren't moving forward.
Some of our peeps will grasp the new year willingly. Watch 2019 arrive. Exciting times- those first two weeks of January. Gym memberships, running with the dog, clean eating, begging the coach to put us in the game in every area of our lives. Until February blows in with its bitter chill. And we get tired. And disillusioned. And we give up. Plan A tanked. And that was the extent of our wheelhouse. I, too, have spent way too much time at this address: watching life happen can kind of feel like I am participating. If I squint really hard and nod my head to simulate activity. Then I get dizzy and sit back on the bleachers to watch the game in peace.
Making something happen in 2019 is up to me. I outgrew the hamster wheel long ago. The bleachers are for temporary use: that is why they are so dang hard. Fear can go to hell. My posse are truly those that are smack dab in the middle of the game. Anything can happen...and it will. Plan Z awaits patiently if Plan A submerges. Plan A was just the warm up anyway.
Smile like you know that in 2019 you are going to make something happen. Hey now.
Great suggestions on starting out the New Year!
Loved it! Especially the imagery of pimped out hamster wheels.😂
