Days 25-29 out of #100DaysOfCode
Day twenty-five of #100DaysOfCode
Today is Wednesday, the 7th of October. Today I am prepping for a phone interview for a full-stack position. It’s so exciting and a little nerve-wracking. Hello flashcards!
--Post-interview--
The phone call went well. It was less of an interview and more of a “pre-interview” call to see if I would be a good fit there. Next, I was reviewing old projects from the first half of my Bootcamp and I am happy to say that I noticed a million things that I did wrong! You might be reading this thinking “why is that good that you messed up?” Well, I am happy to say I noticed all the errors right off the bat. Technically the flawed programs run, but what I noticed were pieces that make the program less efficient and I had found messy, unneeded, and even unused code in the projects! Sometimes I wonder if I am excelling or reverting, and today I realized I am launching forward. I have been practicing coding since I graduated and I am happy to say it is paying off! I know I have grown so much even in the past month.
I also worked on SchedulePro App and added a connection to my MySQL DB.
Day twenty-six of #100DaysOfCode
Today is Thursday, the 8th of October. I am almost done with my creation scripts for my Schema in MySQL WorkBench. Now I just need to fine-tune the exact data types and add some constraints and such, and then insert some data to play around with in my Java Project. I also opened up some of my previous React apps and started a new one: Pig Latin translator. It’s okay, you can laugh. It’s a little funny, but it’s also just plain old “fun” which is why I am doing it. I also did a couple of leet code challenges in JavaScript that I had previously done in Java. These past few weeks I have been able to practice in several different languages and frameworks: HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, JavaScript, React, jQuery, Java, and SQL. It has been a super cool experience!
If you found something that could be improved in my scripts, please reach out! I really would love to have feedback.
Day twenty-seven of #100DaysOfCode
Today is Friday, the 9th of October. I also continued working on React apps and refamiliarizing myself with all of the details as it has been a few weeks. I worked a bit on my SchedulePro app in Java and added a Java Database connection, a student menu, and “add an appointment” (JDBC) functionality.
I also added my Schema to the back-end SchedulePro project on GitHub! #halfStack? I am trying not to get ahead of myself but I can't wait till it is time to create a front-end piece to this.
Day twenty-eight of #100DaysOfCode
Today is Saturday, the 10th of October. I was reading a few forums on React and practiced with components after I got home from a 12-hour shift.
Day twenty-nine of #100DaysOfCode
Today is Sunday, the 11th of October. I played around in creating the famous "to-do" list in React which was fun practice! I also pushed a couple of commits to my Github and had a very sad realization. My commits that I am pushing to Github are NOT registering as contributions on my chart and just to be clear, I am talking about my own projects -- not forked repositories. I connected everything correctly, and the changes are going through to Github, but they aren’t showing that I did anything. It looks like I don’t ever code which is so very bad when I am trying to show potential employers how consistent I am. PLEASE let me know if you have any thoughts on this!
Thanks for reading my article,
Mara Munoz
Looking great, Mara! It’s been awesome to see your passion for programming. As for the private contributions on your github, here’s a doc that might help (sorry if you’ve already come across this and it still isn’t working): https://docs.github.com/en/free-pro-team@latest/github/setting-up-and-managing-your-github-profile/publicizing-or-hiding-your-private-contributions-on-your-profile
