Building an application using low code

I am a graduate student at the Naveen Jindal School of Management. Using this article, I would like to share my experience with Robotic Process Automation (RPA) course instructed by Professor Gaurav Shekar. In this class, I have learned about Appian, UiPath, and AccelQ tools, which are low-code development platforms. Building any application for real-world problems is quite crucial but With Low-code and RPA, it is very easy to create a working application. I always thought that if you are building any application you need to learn different coding languages. But being a graduate student at The University of Texas at Dallas, I got to know that MIS 6385 Robotic Process Automation has been added to the MSITM course list. This was the first I time heard about the Appian a Low code Platform for RPA.

A low-code development platform provides a development environment used to create application software through a graphical user interface. In low code, we can develop the applications easier and faster. It may produce entirely operational applications or require additional coding for specific situations. Cost reduces for setup, training, deployment, and maintenance. These kinds of platforms are becoming more popular. One such platform is Appian which is user-friendly. Appian also provides reports and charts that can be used to showcase the data in a diagrammatic form for easy understanding of data.

My personal experience with Appian was the Vehicle Fleet Management application, it was an end-to-end application to manage a vehicle fleet. Though at the start it was very new and tough to understand, with the help of the professor and the documentation provided by the Appian community. I was able to build bots for repetitive tasks and generate dynamic reports using Appian’s charting feature. With this knowledge, I was excited and participated in the weeklong hackathon which was held by KPMG and was able to create an application from scratch for the use case Employee Goals and Feedback, though it was tough as a beginner to low code I have gained a lot of experience and knowledge by participation.

I also had an opportunity to participate in ACCELQ hackathon, it's been a great learning. There are many new technologies developing day-to-day but low code has created its place as it helps people from different backgrounds to create applications.

Finally, I would like to express my gratitude to Professor Gaurav Shekar for his efforts put into this class and my teams Noel Abraham, Omar Al Shanti , Prakash Ghind , and Shane Tjiong.
