The big enabler in the push for e-mobility.
An ever-changing world ,faster evolving human beings but at the cost of a changing environment. The climate change which all these years the world had ignored is now at the epicenter of every major economic decision.
Today the push to Electric Vehicles with low battery cost has become viable and large scale adoption has become a global opportunity for companies as well as for developed nations But this should not be treated as a money minting opportunity by many.
India lost the plot when it didn't open its doors to electronic manufacturing. The result as we see today is 70% of the electronics products are being imported. The market with the average income levels going up, sure to show the hunger for a better lifestyle. The electronics market is directly related to the semi-conductor devices where the technology evolution is fastest and hardware capacity growing exponentially but with a price drop.
It is interesting to notice the total volume of batteries in mobiles being sold in India has been to the tune of approximately 5 GWh and is expected to reach 10 GWh by 2020. The average size of rechargeable batteries has risen from a meager 300 mah to avg size of 2800 mah. The subscriber base of smartphones is to touch 250 million users in India. The story with the laptop segment and the tablet put forward an additional appetite for approximately 1 GWh storage volume in form of rechargeable batteries.
The need for an extensive large scale battery manufacturing industry is evident from the above figures. It is practical with these figures to make a compelling case for India to be the next hub of battery manufacturing industry to survive the onslaught as well as to cater to its own needs of Electric vehicles and Energy storage.
If we could have mandated indigenous rechargeable batteries in mobiles, laptops and power tools, medical devices etc, catering to 30-40% of the rechargeable battery volume sold in India it would have been a game -changer.A big enabler in the push for e-mobility.
Also do let us know the costs of batteries with different capacities.
