    Two hours a day on LinkedIn and it will change your professional life. I've seen firsthand the incredible impact that a consistent, targeted approach on LinkedIn can have. Many people spend hours on the platform without seeing results simply because their time is unfocused and scattered in short bursts throughout the day. But if you dedicate two intentional hours, with a structured plan, it can make all the difference. Here's my proven blueprint, refined over years of personal experimentation and analysis, for maximizing those two hours: ✔️ 40 Minutes - Content Creation Focus on creating high-quality content that delivers value. Don’t aim for a rigid post count; instead, post as often as you have meaningful insights to share, up to 4 times a day. LinkedIn’s algorithm favors quality over quantity, so prioritize posts that resonate with your audience. ✔️ 30 Minutes - Engagement (Comments, Likes, Groups) Engage with relevant groups and comment on posts from peers and influencers. Contributing insights or resources builds your credibility and strengthens connections. The algorithm also rewards this type of active engagement, increasing your visibility. ✔️ 20 Minutes - Strategic Connection Requests Send connection requests to professionals who fit your target criteria, like specific job titles, companies, or locations. If spread across the week, you can send up to 230 requests. Aim for 30–35 daily to steadily grow a high-value network. ✔️ 20 Minutes - Targeted Outreach Send direct messages to people you want to reconnect with or who have shown interest in your profile or posts. Keep messages short, personalized, and to the point—this isn’t a sales pitch but a relationship-building exercise. Quality outreach leads to better response rates and valuable connections. I insist on sending 125 DM's (on average) per business day, which yields me 5-7 replies and 3-5 meetings. Weekly = 600 DM's = 15-25 future calls/zooms. ✔️ 10 Minutes - Analyze and Optimize Use LinkedIn Premium’s analytics to track what’s working and refine your strategy. Regularly assessing your performance helps you understand what resonates and fine-tune your approach for better results. Consistency is key, but most people give up before seeing the payoff. Partnering with someone who can help you stay accountable and refine your approach can make all the difference. Give it two hours a day, stick with it, and see how LinkedIn can change your professional life. The destination is SO worth the journey. It enabled me to start Onward & Upward Consulting without spending one penny on business development. Talk about professional leverage.

    If you’re starting the year with a goal to spend more time on LinkedIn to build your professional brand, and raise your visibility and credibility, here are a few things I’d focus on first to put a strong strategy in place. Whether your goal is growth inside your current organization or visibility beyond it, clarity and consistency matter far more than volume. 1. Get crystal clear on what you’re trying to communicate. If you’re talking about 10 different topics or trying to demonstrate expertise in too many areas at once, you’ll end up creating noise instead of clarity. I recommend focusing on 3–5 core themes that clearly reflect your expertise and the value you bring. When people know what you stand for, they know why to follow you. 2. Be realistic about your bandwidth and capacity. Consistency beats intensity every time. Posting twice a month consistently is a far stronger strategy than posting twice a week for one month and burning out by the end of January. Think honestly about the time you can commit and if LinkedIn is a priority but your bandwidth is limited, consider what support might help you stay consistent. 3. Commit to engaging, not just posting. One of the most effective (and often overlooked) ways to grow on LinkedIn is by engaging with others. Liking, commenting, and thoughtfully interacting with other people’s content builds real relationships, expands reach, and creates sustainable engagement over time. LinkedIn doesn’t require perfection it requires intention. A clear message, a realistic plan, and consistent engagement go a long way.     After a year of job hunting and trying to pivot sectors, from education to human resources, I've faced countless challenges and have grown immensely. With August bringing a surprising uptick in recruiter contacts, I've been reflecting on what's making a difference. While every job search is unique, here are strategies that seem to be working for me: 1️⃣ 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸𝗹𝘆 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗲𝗱𝗜𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗨𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀: I've made it a habit to tweak my profile weekly, even in small ways. If I update my resume, I'll add the change to my profile. It could also be an edit to my About section or Headline. 2️⃣ 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗱 𝗝𝗼𝗯 𝗧𝗶𝘁𝗹𝗲𝘀: I've aligned my job titles with LinkedIn's pre-populated options. This makes it easier for recruiters using specific search terms to find my profile. For dual roles, I use the corporate title in the header and explain the full scope in the description. For example, instead of "School Counselor/Project Manager," I might use "Project Manager" as the title and mention the counseling role in the description. 3️⃣ 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗲𝗱𝗜𝗻 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: Regular activity on the platform helps. I share relevant content, offer thoughtful comments (15+ words, or so I've heard) on others' posts, and highlight professional development achievements (e.g., if I took a LinkedIn Learning course, what did I learn and gain from it?) 4️⃣ 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗳𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗢𝗻𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲: I've expanded beyond LinkedIn, posting my resume on other job boards relevant to my target sector (e.g., Dice, Indeed, etc). Remember to keep those profiles updated in addition to your downloadable resume on LinkedIn (found in the Jobs tab under Preferences). 5️⃣ 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗔𝗹𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗿𝘂𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗢𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵: I respond to every recruiter who reaches out, even if the position seems out of left field. Here's why: ▶ It could lead to unexpected connections or opportunities ▶ Responsiveness signals that you're active on LinkedIn ▶ Recruiters using LinkedIn Recruiter often target candidates more likely to respond. Your history of engaging with recruiters can increase your chances of future outreach. 6️⃣ 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴: I've attended webinars, engaged in networking events, and committed to ongoing education. This not only expands my knowledge but also my professional network. The key? Implementing what I learn and sharing insights- fostering a cycle of growth and connection. Remember, this is just my personal experience. The job search journey is different for everyone, and what works for one person might not work for another.
