Every tough go-live I’ve seen had the same pattern: integrations were treated as “just another checklist item” instead of having their own plan. Oracle’s own guidance on data conversion, FBDI/ESS jobs, and interface scheduling assumes a structured cutover and reconciliation approach – but projects often improvise this part. The way I frame it is a simple three-phase integration playbook: 1️⃣ Phase 1 – Mock runs (T-x) • Lock scope, systems of record and cutover integrations. • Run full rehearsals incl. banks / WMS / key 3rd-party systems, not just Fusion. • Capture timings, dependencies and data fixes while the pressure is still low. 2️⃣ Phase 2 – Cutover weekend (Go-Live) • Freeze windows and delta strategy are agreed and rehearsed. • Critical FBDI / ERP Integrations / APIs are scheduled with clear owners and checkpoints. • There is a documented back-out plan and a comms playbook if a downstream system is late or offline. 3️⃣ Phase 3 – First 30 days (T+30) • Heightened monitoring for key interfaces and events, with defined SLAs and who responds. • Daily reconciliation between legacy vs Fusion vs downstream (banks, WMS, CRM). • Clear route for “data vs plumbing” issues so teams don’t argue ownership while volumes are ramping. But something fundamental has changed. ⸻ The Big Shift in SAP Cloud ERP In SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud (now evolving toward SAP Cloud ERP) the traditional IDoc-based integration model is no longer the primary approach. Most people think integration is all about coding endless connectors. But there’s a much simpler way to look at it, and that’s where Model Context Protocol (MCP) comes in. It may sound technical, but the idea is actually very simple. MCP works like a translator and connector between different systems and the applications that need them. Without MCP → a system only knows what’s in front of it or what you type in. With MCP → it can “talk” to other systems (databases, CRMs, ERPs, APIs) in a standardised way, fetch data, process it and send back information in real time. Here’s how I think about it: You speak English. Your accountant speaks “Accounting-ese.” Your warehouse manager speaks “Inventory-ese.” Normally, you’d struggle to communicate with both. But MCP acts like a universal translator so everyone understands each other. ⭐ Very important in the current world because it’s: Standardised → no more custom coding for every single integration. Secure → only the right data is shared, with proper access controls. Real-time → you’re working live business data and not with outdated information. 👉 Let’s take a real scenario of the Salesforce + SAP Use Case. Order Management often runs across Salesforce (sales) and SAP (inventory & billing). ⭕ Without MCP You’d build multiple connectors.
