Summary

SAP PI PO replacement solutions help businesses transition from legacy, on-premise SAP Process Integration (PI) and Process Orchestration (PO) systems to modern, cloud-based platforms like SAP Integration Suite. This shift is essential for keeping up with the latest integration technologies, improving real-time visibility, and connecting cloud applications, partners, and suppliers efficiently.

  • Assess integration needs: Review your current SAP PI/PO landscape to identify which workflows and connections are truly valuable before planning your migration.
  • Redesign for cloud: Build new integrations using cloud-native tools and patterns rather than simply copying old processes onto the new platform.
  • Utilize migration resources: Take advantage of SAP’s pre-built connectors, APIs, and migration assessment tools to streamline your transition and avoid recreating past challenges.

🚀 BTP vs. PI/PO: Replacement or Complementary? Navigating SAP's Integration Strategy! ☁️ The answer is: primarily a strategic replacement, with a transition period for complementarity. 1. SAP's "Cloud First" Strategy SAP is actively driving towards the cloud. SAP Integration Suite, a core component of BTP, is SAP's cloud-native integration solution. It's designed for modern architectures, seamlessly connecting cloud applications (like SAP S/4HANA Cloud, SuccessFactors, Ariba) and third-party systems. PI/PO, while incredibly robust and proven, is an on-premise solution. Its architecture was built for a different era, where systems primarily resided within data centers. 2. End of Standard Maintenance for PI/PO This is the clearest indicator of SAP's direction. Standard maintenance for SAP PI/PO 7.5 will end in 2027. While extended maintenance will be available until the end of 2030, it comes with additional costs. This signals that, in the long term, companies will need to migrate from PI/PO to a more modern solution, and SAP Integration Suite is the designated successor. 3. Why Migration is Inevitable (and Beneficial!) Agility & Scalability: SAP Integration Suite offers agility and scalability that PI/PO, as an on-premise solution, simply can't match. It adapts to growing transaction volumes and new integrations without you having to manage the underlying infrastructure. Innovation: Integration Suite benefits from SAP's latest innovations (APIs, event-driven architecture, pre-packaged integrations, connectors to cloud apps) and is natively connected to other BTP services (AI/ML, Analytics, etc.). Total Cost of Ownership (TCO): While there are migration costs and subscription fees, the long-term TCO of the cloud solution is often more favorable, as it reduces infrastructure, maintenance, and support costs. 4. Complementarity During Transition (Hybrid) During the transition period (up to 2027, or 2030 with extended maintenance), it's perfectly normal and even recommended to have a hybrid integration strategy. You can continue to use PI/PO for your existing, stable on-premise flows, while building new integrations (especially to cloud or SAP S/4HANA Cloud applications) directly on SAP Integration Suite. SAP even offers tools and methodologies (like the SAP Migration Factory Program) to facilitate this transition. The Edge Integration Cell within the Integration Suite will further enable hybrid scenarios with on-premise runtime execution managed from the cloud. In conclusion: Yes, SAP Integration Suite is clearly set to replace PI/PO in SAP's long-term roadmap. It's not a question of "if," but "when" and "how." This shift is technological, but also strategic, aligning businesses with the evolving landscape towards cloud and the intelligent enterprise. It's an exciting challenge for us consultants to master these new platforms! #SAP #Integration #BTP #PIPO #SAPCloud #SAPS4HANA #CloudIntegration #DigitalTransformation #SAPConsulting

What’s Under the Hood of SAP Integration Suite 🧰 For years, SAP Process Integration (PI) and Process Orchestration (PO) were the go-to SAP tools for connecting systems in enterprise landscapes. They were reliable, centralized, and got the job done in a world where most systems lived mostly on-premise. But let’s face it—the way we do business has changed. With hybrid landscapes, APIs, and cloud solutions becoming the norm, the one-size-fits-all approach of PI/PO started to feel outdated. As businesses began adopting cloud solutions and integrating with external partners, new challenges emerged. PI/PO’s monolithic nature made it hard to adapt to the flexibility and scalability these modern setups demand. 🔄 SAP Integration Suite: A New Way of Thinking The SAP Integration Suite takes a completely different approach. Instead of being one big system, it’s a collection of services, each tailored to solve specific integration challenges. Think of it like a toolbox—you pick the tools you need based on the job at hand. 🧰🔧 Here’s what’s inside: Cloud Integration 🌐: Enables E2E integration of cloud-based and on-premise applications, supporting application-to-application (A2A), business-to-business (B2B), and business-to-government (B2G) scenarios. API Management 🔑: Offers tools for designing, managing, and securing APIs, which are essential for creating and governing APIs in application integrations. Open Connectors 🔗: Provides access to over 200+ third-party applications via standardized connectors, simplifying integration tasks for developers. Integration Advisor 🤖: Uses a crowdsourced machine learning approach to accelerate the mapping and development of B2B EDI interfaces, reducing time and costs associated with integration projects. Trading Partner Management 🤝: Simplify B2B integration by creating and maintaining trading partner profiles, enabling faster onboarding and monitoring of partner integrations. Event-Driven Architecture ⚡: Supports real-time event-driven business architectures, enabling applications to communicate through events for improved responsiveness and automation. Edge Integration Cell 🏢: Allows deployment of SAP Integration Suite in private cloud or on-premise landscapes, ensuring data stays secure while leveraging cloud capabilities. Integration Assessment 📊: Provides a systematic approach to evaluating and defining integration strategies based on ISA-M, helping organizations optimize their integration landscape. Migration Assessment 🔄: Assists in evaluating existing integration scenarios for modernization to SAP Integration Suite, ensuring a smooth transition from legacy systems. #SAPIntegration #SAPCloudIntegration #SAPConsultant #SAPIntegrationSuite #APIManagement #SAPTechnology #CloudIntegration #SAPCommunity #SAPConsulting #EventDrivenArchitecture #B2BIntegration #TechInnovation #APIFirst #IntegrationStrategy #SAPEcosystem #IntegrationSolutions
