🚀 Early Career Tip: Your LinkedIn Is Essential Now. In the age of AI, companies receive hundreds of applications for every role. But here’s the truth: recruiters, managers even future coworkers will look at your LinkedIn. Why? To verify your story. To see where you’re heading. To get a sense of who you’re becoming. That’s why a polished profile isn’t just nice to have—it’s essential. Here are 6 quick ways to refresh your LinkedIn: ✅ Update your profile photo – Retire the graduation cap or headphone selfie. Go for good lighting, a clean background, and a professional-but-approachable headshot. (Pro tip: check with your career center—many host free headshot photo days!) ✅ Make your headline pop – Instead of “Student at XYZ,” try “Finance Student | Data & Strategy Enthusiast.” Show direction, not just status. ✅ Highlight impact, not just titles – Don’t just write “Intern.” Share outcomes: “Analyzed sales data in Excel that guided a $1M business line.” ✅ Add skills (and get endorsements) – Recruiters literally search LinkedIn by skills. Add what you’ve got (Excel, SQL, project management) and ask classmates, peers, or coworkers to endorse you. Think of it as five-star reviews for your abilities. ✅ Use the Featured section – Upload a project, class presentation, or even a post you’re proud of. It’s your mini portfolio. ✅ Ask for recommendations – Two or three sentences from a manager, mentor, or teammate adds credibility no bullet point ever could. ✅ Follow companies you admire – You’ll see jobs pop up in your feed, and it signals genuine interest. 💡 Bottom line: Your LinkedIn doesn’t need to be perfect. But in the age of AI, it’s part of how opportunities find you. Treat it like your digital handshake before you ever step into the interview room.

𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐞𝐝𝐈𝐧 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐥𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐭𝐨𝐨 𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞. Too late if you wait until you’re in job search mode. Too late if you only update it after a layoff. Too late if you think tenure will protect you. The biggest mistake I see? Professionals 𝘸𝘢𝘪𝘵 until they need a job to fix the one thing that could shorten their search by months: 𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲. Most think their problem is a résumé. It’s actually obscurity. Every month you wait, you lose opportunities your network never knew to send your way. Here’s how to stay ready: 1️⃣ 𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲. 𝐒𝐞𝐞 𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐞𝐝𝐈𝐧 𝐚𝐬 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐫 insurance - it works while you sleep. 2️⃣ 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤 - share insights, wins, and lessons learned. 3️⃣ 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 3 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐩𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐥𝐲 - before you need them. 4️⃣ 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬 & 𝐩𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐬 - comment meaningfully, not just “Great post.” 5️⃣ 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐢𝐧𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 - measure actual results, not vanity metrics. You can start now and get noticed - Or wait until it’s urgent and get overlooked. Your future self is counting on what you do today. P.S. Ask me anything, I dig helping my peeps.

LinkedIn has brought me career opportunities and friendships I never could have predicted. Yes, I have a large following now. But I started at zero (just like everyone else). Here are 8 LinkedIn tips to help you land your dream job and build a strong network: 1. Post thematically (not randomly) LinkedIn rewards activity. Instead of posting whenever inspiration hits, choose themes your network expects from you: • Industry insights • Insider lessons from books or conferences • Personal projects • Inspiration • Advice or asks 2. Talk about your industry, not yourself Industry insight = authority. The frequently shared LinkedIn content (in no particular order): • How-to posts • Lists • Deep, neutral analysis Teach first. Reputation follows. 3. Be a strategic “liker” Likes are memory cues. When you intentionally like someone’s post, you: • Stay top of mind • Create an instant conversation starter later • Build relationship momentum without DM’ing 4. Your profile is not a résumé It’s a living signal of who you are and what you care about. LinkedIn favors complete profiles, yet nearly half of users leave sections blank. Those extra sections (courses, volunteering, boards) make you more searchable and more human. Incomplete profile = invisible profile. 5. Kill buzzwords (they blur you) Words like strategic, passionate, expert are everywhere. Replace them with language you’d actually say out loud: • “Strategic” → decisive, judicious • “Experienced” → seasoned, practiced • “Leader” → guided, directed Your vocabulary is part of your brand. 6. Be an “adder,” not a commenter Comments aren’t for agreeing, but for adding value. Great comments: • Expand an idea • Share a relevant example • Offer gratitude or context If you want to impress someone, help their post become smarter. 7. Send smart connection requests Never send a blank request. Always answer: • How do I know them? • Why this person? • What’s in it for them? 8. Optimize for your audience Your profile shouldn’t appeal to everyone. Ask: Who do I need to succeed? • Freelancers → clients • Climbers → leaders • Switchers → future industry peers • Speak directly to them. 9. Network after you connect Connections decay without touchpoints. Once a month is enough: • Congratulate promotions • Share relevant info • Make an intro • Invite for coffee when traveling Consistency beats intensity. 10. Use “People Also Viewed” This section tells you: • Who LinkedIn thinks you are • Who you’re being compared to • Who you might be missing If you don’t like the comparison, adjust your language and connections. You don’t need to do all 10. Start with 1-2 and let the momentum compound. What’s one LinkedIn change you’ll make this week?

Many professionals get derailed in their search by focusing their efforts exclusively on one step (locating job postings) or one tool (developing a resume). Job seekers often overlook the fact that a job search is a multifaceted journey of various activities and actions that must be strategically planned and executed to increase success. Focusing all efforts on one ‘basket’ will produce lackluster results. Instead, a diversified job search approach is required. Items to consider: 🔔 Pick a target before you execute. A shot fired in the dark is unlikely to hit a target. Identify a clear job target before you commence a search to avoid spinning your wheels in frustration. General job searches rarely work. 🔔 Know what sets you apart. You can’t sell something if you don’t know what makes it worthy of investment. Identify notable career achievements - and be prepared to articulate them - to support your value. 🔔 Research job requirements and understand employers’ buying motivators. This will help you keep content and communications targeted. Research people and companies on sites like LinkedIn. Understand their needs and work to position yourself as a solution. 🔔 Get career documents perfectly polished Create a resume, cover letter, LinkedIn profile, executive biography, references sheet, and thank you letter. Yes, potentially all of these. Identify the documents that will be valued in your process. 🔔 Beef up your online presence. Keep your online information on-brand and highly professional. If you aren’t very active on LinkedIn, start engaging regularly. Build connections. Share thought leadership. 🔔 Iron out ‘wrinkles’ or employment barriers. Missing skill sets? No related experience? Fired in the past? What challenges are you likely to face in the journey, and how are you prepared to deal with them? 🔔 Prepare for the interview. This involves practice and preparation. There is no other way around it. If you want to nail this critical step in the process - you must invest. 🔔 Network. Both online and off. One of the biggest ROI in a job search is networking and referrals. People don't hire resumes, they hire people -- so talk to more people! 🔔 Finally, seek assistance if you need it. You don’t need to tackle this journey alone. Be open to suggestions, align yourself with people who can help, and invest – fully! You can’t just dip your toe in the employment waters and expect a quick and well-suited bite. Nor can you invest in just one step or tool and expect results. Take action and explore all avenues!

How I help my candidates rebuild their career strategy from zero — and get hired faster even in a crowded market. → Most professionals don’t fail because they lack skills. They fail because they start their career in the wrong order. If I had to start my career from scratch in 2025, I wouldn’t do what most people do. I wouldn’t chase 50 courses. I wouldn’t apply to 200 jobs. I wouldn’t wait for “experience” to magically appear. I’d do ONLY these 4 things — the same steps I teach my jobseekers who restart their careers from zero 👇 🔻 1. Build a powerful digital identity ❌ Not just a LinkedIn profile. ✅ A positioned profile that shows value, numbers, and clarity. 🔻 2. Pick one skill and master it publicly ❌ Practicing silently for months. ✅ Posting insights, results, and small wins weekly — visibility beats perfection. 🔻 3. Network before I need a job ❌ Sending connection requests only when job hunting. ✅ Building relationships with recruiters, founders, and peers early. 🔻 4. Show proof of work everywhere ❌ Telling people “I’m hardworking.” ✅ Documenting projects, achievements, and real outcomes. These 4 steps helped my clients go from invisible to in demand — even with career gaps, relocations, or complete restarts. 2025 will reward people who show their value, not just talk about it. If you had to restart your career tomorrow… what’s the FIRST thing you would fix?

If you’re starting the year with a goal to spend more time on LinkedIn to build your professional brand, and raise your visibility and credibility, here are a few things I’d focus on first to put a strong strategy in place. Whether your goal is growth inside your current organization or visibility beyond it, clarity and consistency matter far more than volume. 1. Get crystal clear on what you’re trying to communicate. If you’re talking about 10 different topics or trying to demonstrate expertise in too many areas at once, you’ll end up creating noise instead of clarity. I recommend focusing on 3–5 core themes that clearly reflect your expertise and the value you bring. When people know what you stand for, they know why to follow you. 2. Be realistic about your bandwidth and capacity. Consistency beats intensity every time. Posting twice a month consistently is a far stronger strategy than posting twice a week for one month and burning out by the end of January. Think honestly about the time you can commit and if LinkedIn is a priority but your bandwidth is limited, consider what support might help you stay consistent. 3. Commit to engaging, not just posting. One of the most effective (and often overlooked) ways to grow on LinkedIn is by engaging with others. Liking, commenting, and thoughtfully interacting with other people’s content builds real relationships, expands reach, and creates sustainable engagement over time. LinkedIn doesn’t require perfection it requires intention. A clear message, a realistic plan, and consistent engagement go a long way. Fellow LinkedIn strategists, what other tips would you recommend?

Next-Level Job Hunting Strategies: How to Compete (and Win) in a Crowded Market Let’s face it: the job market isn’t just competitive, it’s a battlefield. You’re not just up against other qualified professionals. You’re up against automation, noise, and outdated hiring processes. But here’s the truth: Most job seekers are still playing by the old rules. If you want to win in today’s market, you need to level up your strategy—not just your resume. Here are 5 next-level job hunting strategies that will set you apart: ⸻ 1. Build a “Pull Strategy,” Not Just a Push Strategy Most people apply, apply, apply. That’s a push strategy. But the smartest job seekers build visibility and authority so recruiters and hiring managers come to them. How? • Post insights weekly on LinkedIn tied to your expertise • Comment on industry content to stay top of mind • Share results-driven wins from past roles (metrics matter!) Be the signal, not the noise. ⸻ 2. Treat Your Resume Like a Sales Page You’re not writing a biography, you’re marketing a product: you. Each line should highlight value delivered, problems solved, and growth driven. Quick fix: Instead of: “Managed social media accounts” Write: “Increased LinkedIn engagement by 230% in 6 months through targeted content strategy.” Results get interviews. Period. ⸻ 3. Target Roles Like a Marketer Targets ICPs Don’t spray and pray. Get specific. Build a “dream list” of companies that align with your mission, values, and skills. Then: • Follow their content • Connect with employees • Reach out with relevance, not just a resume It’s ABM (Account-Based Marketing) for your career. ⸻ 4. Master the “Value Drop” Outreach Message Forget the generic “I’m interested in opportunities” note. Use this framework: “Hi [Name], I’ve followed [Company]’s work in [X] and love your approach to [Y]. I specialize in [Z] and recently [insert high-impact result]. I’d love to explore how I can bring this kind of value to your team.” It’s clear. Confident. And most importantly—memorable. ⸻ 5. Interview Like a Consultant, Not a Candidate Top candidates don’t just answer questions, they ask the right ones, and offer insights. Bring ideas to the table. Ask about challenges. Talk strategy. Pro Tip: Come prepared with a 30-60-90 day plan or “value blueprint.” It shows leadership before you’re hired. ⸻ Final Thought: Job hunting is no longer about being the most qualified—it’s about being the most strategic. So stop waiting. Start marketing. And treat your job search like the high-stakes campaign it is. Because the best roles don’t just go to the most experienced. They go to the most intentional. I Teach Ambitious Startup Job Seekers How To Land Career-Accelerating Roles at World-Changing Startups | “De-Risk” the Search w/ Proven Methods & Investor-Grade Data | Apply to our Startup Job Search Accelerator Below

In the past 3 years, I’ve reviewed hundreds of LinkedIn profiles and helped those people land roles in startups. And after all those reviews, one thing is clear: LinkedIn isn’t optional anymore. It’s your public storefront, your first impression. And the #1 way you get surfaced to the people who can change the trajectory of your career. Upwards of 87% of recruiters use LinkedIn to source talent, and that number is even higher in startups, where hiring leans heavily on personal networks and warm signals. So if you’re trying to land a startup role in 2026, your profile needs to work for you, not against you. Here’s exactly how to make yours stand out in today’s market: 1️⃣ 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁, 𝗰𝗿𝗮𝗳𝘁 𝗮 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗽𝘀 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴. Skip the fluffy adjectives. Make it unmistakably clear who you are and what you do. Use this framework: “Job Title | Skills | Who you help + your unique value prop” Your goal is simple: make someone reading it immediately understand your value. 2️⃣ 𝗡𝗲𝘅𝘁, 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗳. One strong, quantified achievement per role is enough, but it has to hit hard. Not tasks. Not responsibilities. Impact. What did you change, fix, improve, or grow? The fastest way to stand out is to show you’ve done work that moved the needle. 3️⃣ 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗻, 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲. You’d be shocked how many qualified people are invisible in searches simply because they forgot keywords or left out industry-specific skills. List the tools, domains, and functions you actually want to be hired for. Set your “Open to Work” preferences to match where you want to go, not where you’ve been. 4️⃣ 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆, 𝗮𝗱𝗱 𝗮 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝘀𝘁. Pin one post that backs up your positioning line, something that demonstrates your expertise, your perspective, or a recent win. It doesn’t need to go viral. It just needs to show you’re a credible operator who thinks deeply about their craft. Optimizing your LinkedIn profile isn’t glamorous, but it’s one of the highest-leverage hours you can spend on your job search. 📌 𝗦𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁 - you’ll want it when your next interview loop starts. 👋 𝗙𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗺𝗲, Kyle Thomas, for practical startup job-search strategies + weekly curated job lists. ✉️ 𝗪𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗷𝗼𝗯 𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵? LinkedIn asked me: What would you tell new grads navigating today’s job market? Here is my answer without sugar-coating. "10 unorthodox, battle-ready truths every new grad or early career job seeker needs to know" 1. “Don’t Job Hunt. Build a Portfolio.” 👉 Instead of endlessly applying, create 1 project a week that shows your skills. “Proof beats promise.” Call To Action (CTA): Post one work sample on LinkedIn this month. “Show them what you can do, not what you say you’ll do.” 2. “Be the Uncomfortable One.” 👉 Send a cold email or DM to 3 industry leaders this week. Ask a bold question. CTA: Message 1 hiring manager today. “To be outstanding, get comfortable with being uncomfortable.” 3. “Stop Waiting. Start Building.” 👉 Create a LinkedIn post that teaches something from what you know. Thought leadership starts before you’re hired. CTA: Write & post something by Friday. “Stop waiting for opportunities. Start creating them.” 4. “Turn Your Resume Into a Story.” 👉 Rewrite your resume as a 1-page story of challenges, wins, and lessons. Make it read like a narrative, not a list. CTA: Update 1 section with a “what I learned” line this weekend. “Every job seeker has a story; how you tell yours makes all the difference.” 5. “Forget Perfect. Aim for Progress.” 👉 Send an application even if you meet 60% of the criteria. Stop self-eliminating. CTA: Apply to one “stretch role” today. “Progress > perfection. You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” 6. “Make LinkedIn a Playground, Not a Résumé Dump.” 👉 Add a weird hobby, bold headline, or unexpected banner image. Spark curiosity. CTA: Change 1 thing in your LinkedIn profile now to stand out. “Your LinkedIn is your billboard. Make them stop scrolling.” 7. “Find Your Allies, Not Just Jobs.” 👉 Network sideways. Connect with other grads, creators, builders—not just managers. Peers hire peers. CTA: DM 2 classmates or fellow grads this week about collaborating. “Your network is your net worth—but don’t forget to build it across, not just up.” 8. “Pitch Yourself, Not Just Apply.” 👉 Record a 60-second video pitch about your excitement for a company or role. Email it, DM it, or post it. CTA: Film & share 1 short pitch this weekend. “You’re not a job title. You’re an idea waiting to be heard.” 9. “Interview Them Back.” 👉 Go into interviews with 5 bold questions prepared for the company. Flip the dynamic. CTA: Write those 5 questions today. “If you’re not interviewing them, you’re begging for their approval.” 10. “Act Like a Freelancer, Even as a Job Seeker.” 👉 See yourself as a business of one. Market. Sell. Pitch. Iterate. Deliver. CTA: Write your personal ‘About Me’ like a service page. “You’re the product. Package it. Sell it. Upgrade it.” Now stop reading.
