    Ever tried keeping Salesforce data in sync with an external system, only to run into polling delays, missed deletes, or performance bottlenecks? I’ve found Change Data Capture (CDC) to be a game-changer for event-driven integrations. With CDC, every record create, update, delete, or undelete fires a “change event” into Salesforce’s event bus. External systems subscribe once and get only the changes they need—no more round-the-clock polling. Some favorite use cases: Sales Cloud → ERP sync: Account and Opportunity changes flow in real time to your finance system. Service Cloud → Ticketing: Case updates automatically create or update tickets in Jira or ServiceNow. On-platform automation: Complex recalculations or external callouts happen asynchronously via CDC triggers, not inside the user’s save.     Last quarter, one of our customers added a custom field to HubSpot. Took them 30 seconds.   Their sync stopped carrying that data for 11 days before anyone noticed. The field existed in HubSpot. It didn't exist in the sync mapping. So the pipeline kept running perfectly, just on last month's version of the schema. This is one of the most common reasons syncs silently drift. The engine is fine. The source system changed shape, and nobody told the pipeline. Your RevOps team adds a property. Your engineer renames a column. A migration drops a staging table. The sync was configured for the data model that existed on setup day, and every change after that opens a gap nobody files a ticket for. So we built Automatic Sync Configuration Update. It detects schema changes in your source apps and responds on its own, based on rules you configure once, so the mapping always reflects the actual state of your data model. A new field appears in your CRM and propagates to the target automatically. A table gets deleted and the sync unsyncs it while keeping everything else running. A column gets renamed and the change carries through without remapping. No engineer paged. No sync paused. No 11-day gap where your dashboards are quietly wrong. Your schemas will change. The third-party system could be anything: an ERP (like SAP), a marketing tool, or even a legacy database. It needs Salesforce data but can’t directly "talk" to it. Here’s how SAP CPI makes this work smoothly: Listening to Salesforce: Using its built-in Salesforce adapter, CPI automatically detects changes—like a new lead or updated contact—just like a assistant who watches your CRM for important updates. Translating the Message: Salesforce stores data in its own format (e.g., "Lead_Status__c"), while the external system might expect something different (e.g., "STATUS_CODE"). CPI converts these terms so both systems understand each other, eliminating manual reformatting. Delivering Securely: Once translated, CPI sends the data to the third-party system using the method it prefers—whether that’s an API call (like a digital handshake), a file drop (like an encrypted email), or even a direct database update. Handling Errors Gracefully: If something fails (e.g., the external system is down), CPI doesn’t just give up. It retries, sends alerts, and logs the issue—like a persistent courier who ensures your package isn’t lost. Why This Matters: No More Manual Work: Sales teams can trust that data entered in Salesforce automatically flows where it’s needed, without spreadsheets or copy-pasting. Real-Time Accuracy: The external system always has the latest customer info, reducing errors from outdated records. One Less Headache: IT teams save months of custom coding, since CPI’s pre-built adapters do the heavy lifting. In short, SAP CPI acts like an invisible bridge between Salesforce and other critical tools, keeping data in sync so people can focus on their jobs instead of fixing broken connections.

There are two primary CDC apply methods that are particularly effective: 1. Merge Pattern: This method involves creating an exact replica of every table in your database and merging this into the data warehouse. This includes applying inserts, updates, and deletes, ensuring that the data warehouse remains an accurate reflection of the operational databases. 2. Append-Only Change Stream: This approach captures changes in a log format that records each event. This stream can then be used to reconstruct or update the state of business views in a data warehouse without needing to query the primary database repeatedly. It’s generally easier to maintain but can be more challenging to ensure exact consistency with upstream sources. It can also be an easier path to achieving good performance in replication. Being a Data Engineer its not just important to build pipelines to deliver data to the consumers, but synchronising the data to empower organisations for propagating real-time data changes across distributed systems is equally important. Change data capture helps to capture, track and enable teams to replicate data instantly and incrementally by continuously monitoring a source database for changes (inserts, updates, and deletes) and capturing these modifications as they happen. The changes once captured are streamed to target systems such as data warehouses, data lakes, or other databases to keep them in sync with minimal latency. The working of the CDC follows the following steps: 1. Detect 2. Extract 3. Transform 4.
