It’s a leftover slogan from an era when computers did exactly what they were told and nothing more. That was 30 years ago. Back when Clippy was king and your printer made noises like a small chainsaw. Today’s AI doesn’t work that way. It interpolates, abstracts, learns, filters, corrects, and sometimes even surpasses the quality of the input. That’s not a bug — it’s the whole point. These models recover meaning even from incomplete, flawed, or lazy prompts. They don’t just regurgitate, they reason. And if you know how to prompt them well? Your categories are broken. Without a notes field, you’re missing a golden opportunity in the age of LLMs and NLP, where unstructured text is finally usable. Not everything belongs in a 1–5 scale. 🔎 Example 2: Only 10% of interviews logged in your ATS? That’s not recruiter laziness. It’s proof your ATS isn’t embedded in the flow of work. If tracking interviews elsewhere is faster or easier, people will do it. 🔎 Example 3: 12% of hires marked as “internal,” yet leaders know it should be higher? That’s a flashing signal your internal mobility process is messy. Misclassified moves, broken handoffs between recruiting and onboarding, or invisible pathways for candidates—all hidden in plain sight. 🔎 Example 4: Forecasted vs. actual headcount wildly misaligned? That’s not just bad math—it’s financial risk. It signals that the pipeline connecting HR, Finance, and the business is running on stale data. When workforce planning is off, so are your cost forecasts, revenue models, and productivity assumptions. The fix isn’t a new spreadsheet—it’s stronger governance: clear roles, clean processes, and connected systems. Don’t dismiss it as “bad data” or demand a system overhaul—use the noise. The biggest gaps between forecast and actual headcount point directly to where investment is needed, whether it’s a system drop-off, a process breakdown, or an information bottleneck. Here’s the point: “Bad data” is rarely just bad. It’s an early indicator of broken processes, unreliable systems, or poor training and socialization. If you can learn to read the mess—garbage becomes gold.

That dataset wasn't machine readable Collecting data costs too much. Don't get me wrong: strong, robust data is IMPORTANT. 𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝗶𝗳 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗣𝗢𝗡𝗦𝗜𝗕𝗟𝗘 𝗔𝗜: 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝘀𝗮𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 '𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻, 𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝘂𝘁.' • AI is sociotechnical, it gets used in a context, with histories, with oppressions, with inequalities. • AI, when used to make decisions about people, allocates resources in an unequal world. • If you use "garbage" data (especially data that isn't highly representative about different communities and experiences), you can still deploy a solution, pat yourselves on the back, and hit your "go live" date.
