WORKPLACE OF THE FUTURE

While employees are being prepared for the future of work, employers should not be left out of the calculation. This sounds interesting as we all know that most organizations are not looking in that direction especially in the third world countries.

Employers need to be intentional in making their employees fit perfectly into the future of work as it will eventually pay off in the long run, with the employer having a higher stake in the whole scenario.

The criteria being used to rank companies now revolve around organizational culture and stability. Employers should never forget that an organization is a going concern. In meeting with its obligations, its objectives and strategies should be clearly spelt out to its personnel on a consistent basis. Simple retraining and redeployment may be the game changer within some organizations while outsourcing or outright downsizing may be the game changer for others. Any of the aforementioned decisions should be for the benefits of employers and employees alike.

Organizations now need to focus on acquiring and developing the technically sound, highly emotionally intelligent and politically intelligent human resources. For any employer to stand out from the competition, these three must be given utmost attention. Agility is now the in-thing and projects are no longer left to a one-man team as the delegation of both important and urgent tasks are now having positive effects on organizations. Outsourced staff are no longer seen as second-class citizens within organizations as strict adherence to statutory regulations are now being championed by outsourcing bodies. How organizations will survive the future of work now goes beyond implementing a technology. Steve Jobs might not have designed anything close to an iPhone X in his entire career life but a culture of continuous improvement has made Apple stand out in the phone manufacturing industry. That is the big picture that organizations must see and embrace to be able to achieve their goals as we approach a new decade.

Since we cannot have an ideal organization, organizations must make concerted efforts to ensure that they consciously mobilize themselves for the workplace of the future.
