A Simple Feedback Tool

Organizations all have their own different ways of doing assessments and measuring results. Some focus exclusively on quantitative measures and some have a higher focus on the intangible results. In today’s world, it is becoming increasingly difficult to measure the output of certain activities. Some business development initiatives may take years before they actually start producing significant revenue. This is why performance measures in general shouldn’t become static.

Given the diverse quantitative output of jobs, feedback becomes a crucial tool for any organization. It allows employers to gain a better overview of the performances and can provide valuable insight for the individual employee. Feedback reactions varies significantly across cultures, which makes it a sensitive subject for some. However, even though it might be difficult to give and receive, it is essential to secure the continuous development of employees.

Sometimes the hardest feedback to give is the most valuable to receive

As long as some general guidelines are followed, you can focus on great results and potential development points without comprising healthy relations.

One of essential points to keep in mind is to look forward. Don’t focus on the things that cannot be changed. This will simply leave an employee discouraged and demotivated. Rather focus and phrase the feedback with the future in mind. This allows people to focus on developing skills to avoid the same mistakes in the future. This perspective motivates employees to learn new skills and reflect over work.

For this specific purpose, I have created a small tool to help the people of organizations provide feedback. This tool is not meant to substitute dialogues or regular performance assessments. It is meant to support them and provide written results for employees to show. But more importantly, it is meant for employees to start giving feedback more frequently and make other people grow their competencies.

The tool itself is extremely simple. It will guide you through a short series of questions regarding a colleague and summarize it in the end.

You can find the tool here: https://kristofferandreasen.github.io/feedback/

The output of the tool is simply a short email with a nice format and the information you typed along the way. It allows you to review the output before you send it to your colleague.

This concludes my small write up. Hopefully this tool will help people share feedback across organizations to help people grow their competencies.
