Post Graduate Program in Data Science with Generative AI Review: Non-Tech to Data Science Career Transition in the U.S.

Post Graduate Program in Data Science with Generative AI Review: Non-Tech to Data Science Career Transition in the U.S.

“I moved from Pakistan to the United States in 2024 with a strong vision to grow and build a better future. Back home, I was working at Monty Mobile as an Enterprise Account Manager, a role I truly cherished and took pride in. Relocating to the U.S. was both exciting and nerve-wracking, especially regarding my career.

I arrived in the U.S. in August 2024 and immediately began searching for opportunities. However, the journey was far more challenging than I had anticipated. I encountered numerous job scams, which were discouraging, though my prior experience in the Telecommunications and IT industry helped me identify and avoid them.

After eight months of persistent effort and limited success, I realized that simply applying for jobs would not be enough. I needed to upgrade my skills and align my education with the demands of the U.S. job market. That realization prompted me to explore professional programs that could enhance my expertise and match current business needs.

After months of struggling to secure the right opportunity, I began researching courses that were in high demand, future-focused, and aligned with the rapidly evolving AI-driven world while still being financially feasible. I explored programs offered by renowned institutions, but they were beyond my budget.

Then I came across the Post Graduate Program in Data Science with Generative AI by Texas McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin around the same time. The curriculum immediately caught my attention as it aligned perfectly with market trends and seemed financially manageable.

When I contacted Great Learning, the team was extremely supportive. They explained flexible financing options and even offered additional self-paced courses to strengthen my foundation. Their transparency and guidance gave me the confidence I needed. It felt like the right opportunity at the right time, and I enrolled soon after.

Interestingly, just one month after enrolling in the program, I secured a job as an Administrative Assistant at a private firm.

While this was encouraging, it also meant balancing work, studies, and household responsibilities simultaneously. One of the biggest challenges was transitioning from a background in Marketing and Finance to a more technical IT-focused field. Previously, I had worked alongside developers and programmers, observing them write complex code, but I had never imagined I would be doing Python and SQL myself. I initially expected more work with numbers and Excel, not coding and programming languages.

The learning curve was steep and, at times, overwhelming. There were moments when I felt stretched thin, dedicating long hours to studies while adjusting to my new professional life in the U.S.

I also faced some health issues during the program and had to take a one-month break to recover. However, I remained determined and resumed my studies with renewed focus, completing my journey from April 2025 to February 2026.

My long-term goals and belief in self-growth kept me going.

Since joining the program, I have already experienced positive changes. I was able to transition into a better opportunity, and more importantly, I gained technical confidence. I can now work with Python and SQL, which once felt intimidating.

The program has also sparked my interest in expanding further into Big Data Analytics and Data Visualization tools like Tableau. Beyond career opportunities, this knowledge has empowered me to analyze stock trends, understand business performance metrics, and interpret market movements more confidently. Even if career transitions take time, the skills I’ve gained are invaluable and applicable in multiple areas of life and business.

It is never too late to start something new. Growth begins the moment you decide to believe in yourself. There will be doubts, setbacks, and challenges, but perseverance always pays off.

Keep striving for better, invest in your development, and trust the process. The returns may not be immediate, but they will always be worth it.”
