Optimist

Being an optimist I try to find good in anything bad that happens around me. The pandemic has been a mixed bag of experiences. While it has a lot to teach it does suck the energy out of you.

It was with a heavy heart that I bid goodbye to Dubai last year. I was one of the unfortunate victims of COVID job loss... Back in India I tried to settle back in Chennai and since the pandemic was in its full glory landed an interim job with a company based in Delhi. Unlike my past this one was a small company with a young CEO and I was not ready for what to expect but still kept my hopes high.

I am a firm believer that anything that happens, happens for reason..

Life wasn't getting better and I had another unexpected situation, my wife got ill and had to undergo an immediate surgery. While the surgery itself went on well and she recovered but sadly the company that I was working couldn't understand the gravity of the situation and was forcing me to come to Delhi for a critical project. While I have always been sporting and never say no type of person , situations were different this time, Having a post surgery recovery going on at home and Covid at its peak I felt this was too much to ask and eventually had to let go my role with that company.

It is really sad to see how companies don't have any empathy but even now (in pandemic situation) are very self centered and care very little about the employees.

  1. Instead of supporting me at a critical juncture the company acted very indifferently where the people who were very close suddenly cut all ties and went into radio silence.
  2. Where a kind word of how I can help you would have been better it was whether you will be able to take calls from the ICU.
  3. Instead of financially supporting me during crisis the company gently requested me to go on Leave without pay and didn't bother to pay me for my notice period also.

This certainly has left a very bad taste and one which I will never be able to forget but "Situations like this only shows what an individual is made up of "

The third time it hit me again when my father-in-law who had visited us to look at my ailing wife tested Positive for Corona and had to be isolated at home.

(Update) Its almost 10 days into quarantine and my father-in-law has shown good improvement. As a precaution me and my wife had also isolated ourselves... It had been a difficult couple of weeks being confined to one room.

I am confident that like in the past I will be able to Weather this storm too.

VTR hope you will land up with a good company soon.
