making a difference

making a difference

My name is Anthony Michaelides, and my Dream has always been to make a difference. Whether it is making a difference in another persons life either directly or indirectly, making a positive difference in peoples lives is what I strive to do every single day.

I see that I already have made a difference in other peoples lives at work, and in my personal life as well. This is LinkedIn, so in regards to the professional work that I do at my five different NYCDOE high schools all over Queens, N.Y., I have seen exactly just how these differences have been made in a high school students life (and even for some faculty members that I work alongside with as well). At this critical juncture in a students life, these particular differences now will help shape and mold these young adults into how they transition into their adulthood.

Whether it is going to a college (an entirely unique and very different experience based on a number of factors taken into consideration), trade school, technical school, or sometimes even work (because sometimes higher education isn't for everybody, for various reasons - and even I who work in a high school know that), this period in an adolescents life is absolutely critical in shaping them on who they will become as they transition to adulthood.

Every decision he or she will make henceforth (graduating from high school) and for the rest of their lives will help shape them into the person that they will be as an adult - spouse, parent, working professional, etc. As a matter of fact, every decision that they have made thus far has brought them to where they are currently. Though from here on out these young adults are emerging into adulthood and are preparing for the "real world". The decisions and experiences they will make and have will impact them in very different ways then ever before.

The decisions that they have to and will make in their adulthood may have a much bigger impact for their future lives then some of the decisions they have made in thus far to bring them to the here and now. Being able to properly prepare students for their future is something I also believe is very critical and essential. And so more then just dealing with a students academics, I try and best prepare them for their future as well.

On top of my everyday job duties, I also just "talk" with these students too. And not talk to them just how any counselor would, but talk to these students about things much more and much bigger then school; about life itself.

My name is Anthony Michaelides, and I am currently living my Dream...
