Let's Talk...

Someone asked me the other day why I haven't updated my LinkedIn profile as of late. My answer was simple, "because I feel as though LinkedIn has become the Tinder of the job world." I received a funny look and said, "I don't want to put everything out there, to be judged by what looks pretty on the screen. If someone is truly interested about my capabilities they can call me, or request a good old fashioned meet n' greet." Sadly, an actual conversation seems to be a lost art form.


I may not have graced the cover of top 40 under 40 or have a centerfold in WIRED, but I do know what I bring to the table and am confident in my abilities. I bring life and prior work experience, new ideas, fresh perspectives and occasionally lame humor. I bring respect, honesty and integrity. I'm open to learning new things, rather than stand with my arms folded conveying a "my way is best" attitude.  


While my MBA isn't from Wharton, and my resume isn't laced with various post-nominal titles, I have helped save "brand lives" one campaign at a time. Perhaps I should add Ph.D. after my name!


So, how do you know I'm the right candidate out of the 50 other individuals interviewed for the position? Truthfully, you don't. That's like asking, how do you know you married the right person or chose the right career path. There are no guarantees. You base some of it on experience, some of it to fill a quota and the rest on your gut.  If you’re lucky, you’ll have hired someone who helps the team/company grow and succeed and someone you can stand to be around for the majority of your day!
