Thinking out loud, well actually silently, but publicly on LinkedIn. 6/14/2018

o·ver·qual·i·fied
ˌōvərˈkwôləfīd/
adjective
adjective:  over-qualified
having qualifications that exceed the requirements of a particular job.

I was told the other day, by a friend that they didn't get a job, because the company told them they were over-qualified.

  • Is that make nice for I really don't want to hire you?
  • Makes me wonder, do they dumb down their resume? (It's funny because i found a meme that said just that after I wrote this.)

Why wouldn't the recruiter desire someone that has the potential to be above and beyond. I get the whole they will probably leave in the future, but what if they don't, what if they are hard working, just want to relax because they are over qualified, and just do a job, but not be stressed out by it?

What if they just want to be the average person working an average job? I'm just saying, not everyone is out to conquer the world, be at the top of the game, etc. Some are just there, trying to make a living, maybe they over achieve in their home life, are at the top of the game with their friends, go the extra mile to volunteer, etc.

Who knows? I guess I don't understand this concept, you have a job, they need a job, it's a win win, correct? We are taught to always do our best, be the best, be top of your class. No one ever hears a teacher tell a student to be an underachiever, and no boss ever ask less of you, if anything, they always expect more.

Why not hire the best of the best? So what if they are overqualified! How can you deny someone a position based off your opinion of their qualifications? If fate brought them to your door step, and they are interested in a job, then maybe destiny is trying to intervene in on your companies behalf and create a remarkable future for the both of you.

That's my out-loud thought of the day, take it or leave it...regardless it's going to look important because some over qualified guru, created this professional platform called LinkedIn! :-) Have a wonderful day, may it be over qualified!
