Let's go CV Shopping!

Let's go CV Shopping!

If you ever wondered how a recruiter looks at you CV? Well it’s much like how they select what products to put in their basket or trolley when shopping down their local supermarket. Don’t believe me? Well let me show you…

 Brand

  • Shopping – It is a recognised/know brand?
  • CV review – Is it well presented and easy to read?

 Ingredients

  • Shopping – Does it contain the right stuff?
  • CV review – Do they have the relevant skills/experience?

 Best before date

  • Shopping – Will I use it all before it goes off?
  • CV review – How long will this person stay?

 Affordable

  • Shopping – Can I afford it?
  • CV review – What are their salary expectations?

 Size

  • Shopping – Can I carry it?
  • CV review – Can I manage this person?

 Usage

  • Shopping – Will I use all of it?
  • CV review – Do they have the relevant training / qualifications/

 Shelf Space

  • Shopping – Will it fit in my cupboard?
  • CV review – Will they be the right team/culture fit/

 Time to Decide

  • Shopping – Seconds
  • CV review – Seconds!

You see, it’s not all that different. Therefore, when writing your CV, you need to market yourself so the recruiter (or hiring manager) will decide to buy you over all the other, similar ‘products’ out there.

Any other CV tips out there?
