The internet is a collection of databases

After Google IO, Sundar Pichai went on Decoder with Nilay Patel and said,

"The internet is a collection of databases."

This is a profound shift in how to think about the internet. The world of SEO is based on the Internet being a collection of websites that search engines will drive people to. An entire genre of recipe sites figured out how to use the smell of grandma's house to SEO their way to the top.

But if it is a collection of databases, then it means a shift in how we think about the .edu. The .edu is both a website and a database of answers.

The .edu is a website because it is still the only place to register for a visit, apply, and deposit. But outside of those transactional moments, the edu must become an answers machine, built to be a database of answers.
