How to Stop Procrastinating
In the business world, there are always going to be certain things we do not like to do. Always know there are going to be tasks or things that will not go away on their own and must be dealt with as part of your business. It is important to look at the bigger picture not the mundane task at hand and learn how to stop procrastinating with these tasks that complete your desired objective.
People procrastinate more than they realize and this is the biggest obstacle to doing more of what they really want to do. Putting off mundane tasks is never a solution and if the desired objective is to be accomplished then at some point you are going to have to address them. Waiting to the last minute only creates stress and anxiety which interferes with the quality of output. However, it should be noted the tasks you considered mundane must be an integral part of the desired outcome. If not, doing them first is also procrastination because you are focused on tasks that are not important to the desired outcome. They must play an important role with your objective. The best thing to do is to get the stuff you hate out of the way as soon as possible. You’ll be less stressed out while you do it, and you’ll get to do other tasks you have more interest with sooner.
So what are some ways to eliminate procrastination? See below!
Set Specific and Meaningful Deadlines
When you set a deadline do not extend it. You will only procrastinate again when getting into this habit. Deadlines should be taken seriously even if you do not feel motivated to meet it. Look at the bigger picture or desired outcome of what you are doing. This will make the process easier and keep you focused to deadlines.
Set Smaller Attainable Goals for Each Task
Break up your task into smaller attainable parts. This makes it easier to manage and execute toward completion before moving onto another part. Take a short break or incorporate something fun in between to keep it interesting so your motivation is up to follow through to completion.
Prioritize Smaller Attainable Goals for Each Task
It is imperative that you start with the most important parts first or in the sequence that is necessary to complete the task. Focus your attention 100% on each smaller attainable goal before moving onto the next part. Multi-tasking does not work and will often lead to burn out allowing procrastination to creep back in again.
Have a Plan and Follow It
Without a plan we do not have a roadmap to set smaller attainable goals and stick to deadlines attached. In addition, a plan allows you to identify potential obstacles or roadblocks ahead of time so you know how to navigate around them. Without a plan, we tend to over schedule and overcommit, which is really just a way of setting ourselves up to fail. This is a never-ending cycle. Just plan and commit to less. A plan keeps you focused and committed to your desired objective.
We always going to have things we do not like to do as part of completing tasks. Use these ideas to make the process easier and keep you focused on your goals. When you begin to master this process, procrastination cannot thrive here.
