Work on Things That Matter
If I want results, I need to focus on those on tasks that will produce results.
This takes real focus and dedication. At the start of the day, I write down those items I really want to focus on. My success rate is about 80% at the moment. My goal is 90%. "
Each day brings its own set of unknowns, issues, wins and discussions. It really comes down to my response to these items that determine whether I had a successful day or not.
It really becomes a way of life. Looking at what it is important and working toward completing those objectives.
Many people talk about how busy they are. My advice, to you is listen closely to how little these people are doing. If someone tells you they're busy, ask them why they are so busy. You will quickly find out that they are not as busy as they think they are.
If you like to win, you will like tracking your work each day and seeing your accomplishments.
If I find myself engrossed in a particular task, I take a break and tell myself I need to see this task to a better conclusion. It is amazing what a break can do.
I have also found that working with others can bring much more meaning
Ask yourself why you are working on the items that you are currently working on? Try the following questions:
- Will I see results from this work? If no, I need to complete it and move on.
- Is this a short-term or long term project? It helps with managing time in the process of seeing a result.
- What other tasks do I need to work on?
Finally, Do work that Matters:
What type of work do I ultimately want to do to make a difference? This is an overall perspective statement. I believe it is important to have a vision as to where you see all of this work going. This particular vision could be personal, a company objective, a part of a person's belief. It really comes down to what you value most, and trying to exhibit those values in every type of work that I do.
Your Thoughts? How do you keep yourself focused on working on things that matter? I encourage you to share your thoughts on this topic. ~Thanks for reading - Brent Pohlman - LeadManageExecute.com
