From Code: A New Form Of Television

One of my earliest applications in Python was called the IAPG. The "Internet Archive Playlist Generator" enabled users to search for Creative Commons items via search term and to automatically generate playlists of them. A year later, I was able to speed the application up with some nice techniques such as Regex and the module "Beautiful Soup".

More recently, some functions from the IAPG have been used to help fuel my Internet Radio streams-- and: video streams.

I have wanted for some time to combine real-time generative music with generative video elements, and now I have created something I call "Generative Television". The videos are retrieved as playlists using IAPG functions, and played at random, chosen from playlists that shift according to what show is on the radio stream. This method allows for new videos to be automatically introduced to the stream over the years.

To get an idea of what Generative Television is like, try this video playlist:

If you would like to experience Generative Television in real time, simply visit a live stream such as "Generative Soundscape Radio":
