Feeling undervalued at work? Try this...
I am friends with many corporate and non-corporate professionals. No doubt they are good in what they are doing still not everyone is at the same level of status quo. And every time we are conversing, we can sense the feeling of, “I am undervalued”. Although percentage varies from person to person, but it does exist. In some it is strongly reflected while in others very low (even 1% counts because it might result in at least one sleepless night or a small fight).
Some are on the verge of losing their control to this monster, and there are a few who know how to control it. So, we decided to discuss about it. Drawing a conclusion out of such a subjective topic was difficult but one thing was evident throughout. To get to the obvious part, let us first explore these(few) astounding people; where do they come from and how do they dominate undervaluation process?
- Yes, they are common people like you and me (yet trailblazer).
- They do not come from outer space, yes, no outer space, but from the same society where we dwell.
And now let’s check out their fight formula. Any guesses?
- Yoga? Yes, but not my cup of tea.
- Meditation?? Ummm, yes but too difficult to take out time for.
- Leniency??? Might work but must be an integral part of oneself.
While above mentioned therapies are a bit difficult to afford, I give you 3 practical and not so tough to integrate reasons to outsmart this enemy.
Think and answer (yes/no):
- Are you passionate about what you are doing?
- Are you getting paid enough to earn a standard living?
- Do you see yourself growing each year, and years from now?
Now, examine your answers-
1. All “yes”- Congratulations, you are safe!
Undervalue is just a drama your brain has created, a little tantrum to seek attention and does not contribute to reality.
2. Only one “no”- Don’t undervalue yourself by broadcasting this.
You are the one who contributes to that small percentage of self-sufficient population who must just worry about keeping up the balance between the world and inner self.
3. Only one “yes”- Yes, you are undervalued at work!
Focus on the improvement of the other two. A suggestion would be to, change your manager, change the company you keep, change the project and if none of these options help, then change your employer.
4. All “no”- You undervalued yourself and nobody else!
You have mistakenly chosen the wrong profession/direction. It will not do you any good, neither financially nor mentally unless you seek an opportunity that suits your ambition and well-being, then go for it as soon as possible.
No matter what option you fall in, undervalue has no reality per se. It is nothing but a viscous circle of negative energy your brain creates and then hallucinates you with. And it is possible to come out of it.
Do not wait for it to hit the saturation level and only then you finally notice it. Because only imperative action pending here is- your wish to break it and preserve your self-esteem by choosing the right options.
Only you have the right to make your valuation. Act smart, act fast!
To the managers,
Your only chance to become a leader is to stop under evaluating your subordinates.
Dear subordinate,
You are a person under the authority or control of another within an organization, an owner of your valuation, and not an inarticulate being of action. Be smart!
Hope this will cut the unnecessary strings attached in between your mental state and reality. Help yourself , stay happy and keep reading!
Good & Deep one!
