Interviews are boring. This is something that every recruiter knows in their heart of heards, even if they may not admit to it…. At some point of an interview, a recruiter will stop paying attention to what candidates are saying. After all, we’re only human. This NEVER happens with AI. “Voice AI in Firms: A Natural Field Experiment on Automated Job Interviews” was justp published — and is one of the most important recruiting studies I’ve seen in years.  It’s rare to see research that gets this deep into the minds of candidates — how they talk, what they reveal, and how interviewer design shapes the outcome.  I encourage everyone interestedin recruitment to read it.

It speaks about how AI interviewers outperforms human recruiters in part because the AI never gets bored. I believe it because I’ve lived it when I was a recruiter myself… by the 3rd or 4th interview of the day, fatigue set in, and you start to interrupt, skip topics, and cut corners. And it’s usually the candidates who pay the price, losing the chance to fully showcase their skills. This paper proves what I’ve long believed: when designed well, AI interviews can understand candidates better.
