Do More in 2018 - A Note from GORUCK

Do More in 2018 - A Note from GORUCK

The New Year is always a great opportunity to take stock of where I'm at, and set a course for where I'd like to be. Like most of you, I've made my fair share of New Year's resolutions. More of this. Less of that. Blah, blah, blah. Sometimes they stick. Often, they don't. To be honest, most of my resolutions have been pretty lame - centered on things that are easy to quantify. You know, save a certain amount of money, lift a certain amount of weight, etc. Fine goals, I suppose, but definitely focused more on the destination than the journey. When I stop to think about it, I'm not sure my life would be noticeably better if I could squat 400lbs or had an extra $20k in my savings account.

More recently, I've discovered that people and experiences are the only things that really make my life richer. A backyard bbq with family, a long ruck with an old friend, or a brutal workout with the crew at Black Hive all do more for my soul than anything I can measure. In the end, life is about doing, not having. And it is never the wrong time to do something awesome. That's why I recently sent a random text to a handful of my Army buddies and invited (read challenged) them to join me on an epic winter ruck through the Grand Canyon. We're totally unprepared, but we leave in a week and will figure it out along the way. It doesn't matter how fast or far we go, just that we do it together and enjoy the walk. There will be great dudes, great views, and cold beer. That's an easy win. We'll be sure to take some pictures to share with you guys.

So this week as you're reflecting back on 2017, and setting goals for 2018, I'd suggest you put the score-keeping aside and figure out a way to spend more time doing awesome stuff with awesome people. I promise that it will make you both healthier and wealthier. If you need any suggestions from your friends at GORUCK, we're always happy to help.

Happy New Year!
