Building applications using Appian- a low code automation platform

This semester I had an opportunity to learn about the low code automation platform with MIS 6385- Robotic Process Automation at the University of Texas at Dallas. I was first introduced to the world of low code, Robotic Process Automation, the benefits of low code platforms, and how low code is the future in my first class with Professor Guarav Shekhar.

Building applications requires a lot of coding knowledge and plenty of time, but low code automation platforms like Appian allow us to build more applications in less time. What once took several months to make an application now takes a few weeks or less to create a fully functioning and visually impactful application.

There are several reasons why using a low code platform like Appian is easier for building applications. The first thing would be the inbuilt coded objects like interfaces, process models, constants, expression rules, etc.,

All we have to do is learn how to configure them and use them in our application. The second thing would be the drag and drop option. We have to know which components we require and configure them. I specifically found the drag and drop option interesting while creating interfaces for the application. Low code platforms are easy to learn and implement irrespective of having technical skills and experience.

My experience with low code automation platform Appian started with taking the course MIS 6385- Robotic Process Automation at the University of Texas at Dallas. Initially, we were asked to build a vehicle management application as part of the course assignment. As someone new to low code platforms and a beginner, it took me around 7-8 weeks to build a fully functioning application from scratch. With the knowledge I gained from the assignment, I developed an application from scratch within a week as a part of a hackathon held by KPMG. This shows how Appian - a low code and automation platform, is easy to use and learn, yet how powerful the platform could be to build applications.

After all the experience I had in this course, I am confident that I can develop applications using Appian from scratch in less time, which I could not have imagined when I began this course.

Taking this course has been an excellent experience for me, and I have learned so many exciting things as part of this course. I would like to thank Professor Gaurav Shekhar for always keeping us motivated and guiding us.
