Mendix 10: AI meets LowCode 🤖
Welcome to LCX Chronicles, the new newsletter by LowCodeX where we will keep you updated about the latest news about us and the LowCode scene in general.
In the first edition we will publish the extended post of Ali Faruk Kilicaslan about the Mendix 10 Launch Event.
Stay tuned for more in the near future!
💡 “ADOPTING MENDIX IS A SUBSCRIPTION TO INNOVATION" 🎯
That is one hell of a closing remark and really encapsulates the current state and future of Mendix. The Mendix 10 Launch Event was beautifully prepared and full of exciting news and information. Or as one anonymous user put it: “It was like drinking water from a fire hose” 😂
The points most interesting to me:
A E S T H E T I C S 🌊: I love the whole new vibe and branding of Mendix 10. It fits the image and feeling of the the Mendix brand exceptionally well!
Philosophy 📜: The overall philosophy of Mendix is turning Ideas —> Outcomes. This has also been my experience working with Mendix and the new features will allow living that philosophy even better.
AI 🤖: Mendix 10 offers many new AI functions like a seamlessly embeded ML Kit connector and Mendix Chat. Mendix Chat will be able to not only help you out with general questions concerning Mendix development, but also access information of the app you are building. Here they emphasized, what I personally believe as well: Generative AI will not replace developers, but assist them!
Project Management and User Feedback ⏳📋: with Mendix 10 you will be able to create improved Epics and User Stories and manage those either with Scrum or Kanban. Or you can just use the Jira Connector and integrate your User Stories directly into Mendix 10. You can also use out-of-the-box Feedback widgets, which will allow your users to give feedback with an integrated Screenshot function and photo editor that allows drawings and annotations. Surveys will also be integrated and you can have insights to your customer feedback natively!

APIs, Connectors and Business Events 🔌📥: don’t even get me started on the new possibilities to easily connect and authenticate REST APIs, SQL Databases, third-party service providers like AWS and publishing/subscribing to Business Events based on Kafka.
Cloud Deployment ⛅️🖥: Mendix 10 will allow deployment on a cloud of your choice and Private Mendix Platforms with a private subset of the Marketplace, Collaboration and other Mendix components, and a new disaster failover system with instances on different servers of your choice. You will also be able to trigger deployment pipelines from third-party providers through Webhooks, improved SAP OData & BAPI features and so much more!
Improved Styling Tools 🖼: when working with SCSS you will now have features like displaying variable paths and automatic import of out-of-scope variables, as necessary. Mendix Studio will also be merged into Studio Pro. Another new function which I am very happy to see is the visual controls of Padding and Margin properties.
MacOS Support 👨🏻 💻: this is one of my personal dreams and probably the best news for me! By end of this year, we are supposed to get a Beta version of Studio Pro for Mac. That would mean no more Parallels Desktop or carrying a second Windows laptop🤞🏼🥺
Fusion Teams 👫: The current state and future of IT development lies in so called Fusion Teams that should be working closely together with corporate IT to ensure a compliant development of solutions. Corporate IT will not loose importance, IT teams will just get more diverse and fluid. More than 40% of IT projects are already done in so called Fusion Teams. Did you know: around 70% of Mendix developers do not have a professional background as Java or .NET devs? 🤔
