Believable vs. BeLiveAble
ONE BILLION DOLLARS: This is the amount of money spent by certain Presidential candidates running on the past two elections. Even still, people had wrong impressions, confusion and a lack of belief in the candidate they did not support. After all was said and done, the Billion Dollar battle to make people believe, ended with about half of the voters NOT. How is that even possible?
BELOVED PASTOR & FATHER: Years ago I left church on a Sunday, looked at my wife and said something like, "That was strange, it seemed like the ____ ______ show, instead of the Word of God being preached" We had be so accustomed to the Bible being taught, so when it wasn't, it threw me off, even though it took me a few weeks to figure it out. Years before, in cities across the nation, Catholic Priests were discovered to have been molesting young boys and girls, by the hundreds, all across the nation. One day families, communities and altar boys around the nation trusted their Father _____, their Priest, then the next, the news reported them being arrested for sexual misconduct with the very children they were commissioned to serve. How is that even possible?
TRUETT CATHY: For years he was more than the founder of the most interesting and prolific fast food franchise in America, he was a father. Truett wore a unique power & purpose, evidenced by the lack of personal ambition and vanity. His heart for others and for serving with greatness made him an exception, a legend really. How is that even possible?
BELIEVABLE: Every good leader, boss, parent & pastor requires trusted relationships where people can receive from us & learn from us. We need others to "believe" in us. In believing, they follow and follow with gusto. Belief is the substance filling the empty jar of hope, hope that we are who we say. A powerful & necessary requirement for powerful followership is the belief, belief is the trigger & foundation of shared success. We ask for it, expect it, hope for it, from our teams at work, from our kids and even our friends. But, we often find ourselves and others wanting. Wanting for true belief and believability. How is that even possible?
BeLiveAble: This is a different metric for personal and professional success. Above I talked about the need to be Believable and yet, what I see as a major struggle, are leaders who try to lead by "making things seem believable", more than they actually are. We project our image and control the message, we try to make life, work and family seem believable. Truett Cathy, however, was the only person mentioned above who actually made his work, home and spiritual life BeLiveAble.
Be-LIVE-able is when we focus less are how things look and more on how things are.
Be: Focus on more than doing, rather on knowing yourself and being present in the moment of being you and the best you you can be.
Live: To live as the example, to live the truth, to live the reality instead of creating the image of reality and truth.
Able: Focus on more than the image of skill and ability, but actually developing true ability.
BE_LIVE_ABLE: when we focus less on how things look and more on how things are.
Dan T. Cathy, a wonderful tribute to the example your father was and continues to be.
