Being human...

Being human...

Since I was a child, I have always heard that it would be important to study and get a degree so I could be a good professional and a get an opportunity to grow and to “be someone”, to get an important place in a corporation.

Despite that, I think I have always wished to get that opportunity as soon as I finished my degree. For me, it was simple logic: I work hard for almost 20 years in school and then, something good will happen. Not because I dreamt that everything would happen by magic, but because my effort would be recognized.

It didn’t happen exactly like I planned and I had my first job by 17 years old, I got many good experiences…and others not so good. And that made me learn something about the world. Sometimes (or many times) the world is unfair and things don’t come for those who deserve it.

And then, I started to learn more things: recognition is something that is hard to get! Working hard isn’t enough! You are unique but there are thousands of unique people that can get the job done! Corporate world work with numbers, with profit and that is ok, that’s why companies exist.

But why do we work? Why do we have to get a job? We have bills to pay, house rent, transportation, food, clothes, etc. etc. … basic needs. And, then, there is other things that I believe people would like to get like travelling, some comfort, get an opportunity to know something or somewhere different.

But when does come the opportunity to do all that?! Many people has one, I know. And many would answer that everything is a question of point of view or priorities.

Don’t get me wrong, I believe that, in time, good things happen when you try and try and try…. And you can fall, but you have to get up and try again. No one will do it for you!

This is the world that Mankind created. A world where you have to pay for what is yours by the simple fact of existing. We are the only being with the ability to think and we are the only one who charges someone else for using water, for building a shelter, for getting clothes to warm up when it is cold.

We have to become humans again! We have to look to people as they are. Respect each and everyone despite the colour, the sex, the age.

We have to have social responsibility, to look out for each other. Family, friends and all the others. And apply that to every sphere of our lives, including our professional lives.

People need to be recognized for the good things they do.

You don’t need to “be someone” important. You ARE important!
