The Era of Cognitive Computing

Artificial intelligence (AI) may sound like science fiction, but it is real, and becoming increasingly important to companies in every sector. The growth of the cognitive computing market would be supplemented by the increasing volume of large unstructured data across various verticals such as healthcare, banking and financial, security and IT & Telecom

The field of artificial intelligence has produced a wide variety of “cognitive technologies” that simulate human reasoning and perceptual skills, giving businesses entirely new capabilities and enabling organizations to break prevailing tradeoffs between speed, cost, and quality.

Cognitive computing describes technology platforms that broadly speaking, are based on the scientific disciplines of Artificial Intelligence and Signal Processing. Cognitive computing involves self-learning systems that use data mining, pattern recognition and natural language processing to mimic the way the human brain works. The goal of cognitive computing is to create automated IT systems that are capable of solving problems without requiring human assistance.

Future aspects of Cognitive Computing are projected to include

Augmented Virtual Reality

  • Augmented reality (AR) is the integration of digital information with live video or the user's environment in real time
  • Augmented reality programs are written in special 3D augmented reality programs such as D'Fusion, Unifye Viewer or FLARToolKit

Sentient Computing

  • Sentient computing is a form of ubiquitous computing which uses sensors to perceive its environment and react accordingly. A common use of the sensors is to construct a world model which allows location-aware or context-aware applications to be constructed

Specialized Deep Learning on Big Data sets

  • Cognitive computing helps less-experienced staff handle the complexities of big datasets
  • Staffs who aren’t as familiar with data language or data processing, which are normally essential for proper analytical functions, could still interact with programs and platforms by providing simple commands and using normal language, platforms built with AI technology

Generalized Artificial Intelligence systems

  • Cognitive computing is used in numerous artificial intelligence (AI) applications, including expert systems, natural language programming, neural networks, robotics and virtual reality
