Advancing BIM and Model-Based Design in Facade Engineering: Nicola Haberbosch at the Rhino User Meeting

🔍 Speaker Spotlight: Nicola Haberbosch - Integrating Digital Tools in Facade Engineering

Nicola Haberbosch is a prominent figure at Drees & Sommer , a leading European consulting, planning, and project management enterprise. With extensive experience in sustainable building and innovative construction methodologies, Nicola has been instrumental in driving forward-thinking projects that integrate both economic efficiency and ecological considerations. At Drees & Sommer, Nicola focuses on developing and implementing sustainable strategies that address the challenges of climate neutrality and energy efficiency.

👤 Meet Nicola Haberbosch: "I am a registered architect and certified facade expert with almost 10 years of experience in technically developing bespoke facade solutions. I graduated from architecture school (Stuttgart University) in 2014, and from the University of Applied Sciences Augsburg (facade engineering) in 2017. I started my career at KnippersHelbig GmbH in Stuttgart and New York City/USA. In 2019, I joined the facades engineering team at Drees & Sommer in Munich as a project manager. Additionally, I focus on digital tools and methods in facade design."

🎯 What Will Be Covered: "Use of Rhino and Revizto in the technical development and detailing of our facade projects. How facade experts can be better integrated in model-based design processes, and how projects can benefit from that!"

🌍 Why This Topic Matters: "It’s an interesting use case in bridging the gap between digital design and construction. Rhino is useful to both quickly visualize façade options during early design stages and later on solve bespoke facade constructions in detail, and by using the Revizto Plugin additionally informs model-based design processes that are coordinated in Revizto. The option to automate or parametrize components in Rhino helps to optimize the process."

🚀 My Journey with Rhino: "I started using Rhino at architecture school during my studies. Rhino has played a crucial role in nearly every project I’ve worked on, from partial facade models and digital mock-ups to technical detailing. In terms of facade design and engineering and considering the fact that most facades in large projects are highly unique, I assume Rhino will continue to play an important role in both early design stages as well as in detail development."

🌍 What's Shaping the Future: "Model-based design across all planning disciplines."

🔗 What I'm Looking Forward To: "The exchange with other experts across all disciplines.

💡 A Fun Fact About Me: "Sad but true: We recently built a BIM model of a building envelope with a vast amount of information, used for full specs and handed over to the construction companies. Despite the digital and model-based process, we last-minute had to generate and print a full set of A0 paper plans. All contract appendices had to be hard copies, resulting in a huge pile of paper. Hopefully, the next project will be paperless!"

Liebe Nicola, sehr sehr cool und viel Spaß 😉

We are incredibly excited to hear more about the combined power of Rhino and Revizto in Nicolas use cases !
