100 Days of Code

Yesterday i finished my #100daysofcode challenge.

I have been spending about 2 hours a day on coding, mostly when commuting to/from work and sometimes late in the evening after kids go to bed.

I personally joined the challenge to commit to #CS50 course that i started for the third time in the last 3 years. The first two attempts were quite short - i would quit after 3-4 weeks. This time I am gonna finish it for sure and will get my Harvard Uni certificate. I have already finished all problem sets and have been working on the final project for the last 3 weeks.

I have always enjoyed coding, but i have never studied it seriously. It was always more like a fun activity, but in the last couple of years it kinda became almost a daily routine in my work. I would either write some scripts in PowerShell or code in vanilla Javascript in vRO. However, there wasn't much opportunity to learn and apply advanced topics like OOP or functional programming. Moreover, there wasn't a chance to build your own complete app.

While CS50 does not go very deep in computer science it covers very wide range of technologies. It starts with learning C, but after 4 weeks it moves on to Javascript, Python, HTML, CSS, Jinja, SQL, Flask/Django Web Frameworks.

To make my project more interesting I am diving into OOP, learning to how containerise my final project app and trying to build a simple CI/CD pipeline.

Obviously, i haven't become a full-stack developer in these 100 days, but now I am more comfortable talking about the technologies a full-stack developer should be proficient in, I can create my own web app and I believe the new skills will facilitate my personal transition to DevOps.

However, the biggest discovery during these last 100 days was that I have never been so hungry for learning. These 2 hours a day of learning/coding/ and pure creativity probably have been the best part of my day.

So, today I am starting my second round of #100DaysOfCode, but to make it more interesting I am gonna be running another 100 Days Challenge on K8s and vRA8 in parallel.
