Day 118-119 📘 Python Full Stack Journey – Django Models, Relationships & Media Handling Today I explored some advanced and exciting concepts in Django, moving closer to building real-world dynamic applications. 🚀 🎯 What I learned today: 🗄️ Multiple Models & Relationships Created a new Teacher model and linked it with Course using ForeignKey Understood how one-to-many relationships work in Django Used on_delete=models.CASCADE to automatically remove related data 💡 Learned how deleting a course also removes associated teachers — maintaining database integrity 🧩 Model Enhancements Used __str__() method to display meaningful names in Django Admin instead of default object names 🖼️ Image Handling in Django Used ImageField to upload images Installed Pillow for image processing Configured MEDIA_ROOT and MEDIA_URL to serve uploaded files Displayed images dynamically in templates 🌐 Dynamic Data Rendering Retrieved data using: Teacher.objects.all() Displayed data in templates using Django loops and variables Built a Teachers page showing: Name Course Image 📩 Forms & Models Created a Contact model for user data Introduced Django ModelForms to handle user input efficiently This session helped me understand how Django connects models, relationships, media files, and forms to build fully functional applications. Here’s what I learnt while working with Django ORM: 🔹 Difference between select_related and prefetch_related 🔹 How to reduce multiple database hits by optimizing queries 🔹 Avoiding N+1 query problems in real-world scenarios 🔹 Using values() and values_list() for efficient data fetching 💡 One thing I found interesting: Even a simple API can become slow if queries are not handled properly. ✨ Feature Friday: A backend lesson I learned the hard way While building my Task Management System in Django, I thought: “If the logic is correct, everything should work.” But I was wrong. The issue wasn’t in my views or models. It was in how I structured my API responses. Sometimes: - Data wasn’t consistent - Responses were unclear - Frontend integration became confusing That’s when I realized: 👉 Backend development is not just about making things work 👉 It’s about making things predictable and structured What I changed: - Started using consistent JSON response formats - Paid more attention to serializers - Focused on clarity, not just functionality This small shift made debugging easier and my code cleaner. 💡 The moment I started thinking like a backend developer: I stopped asking "Is my code correct?" And started asking 👉 "What could go wrong?" Now whenever I build something in Django, I think: → What if the user sends wrong data? → What if the API fails? → What if the database returns nothing? Earlier, I only focused on the happy path. Now I focus on edge cases. That one shift completely changed how I write backend code. Because real applications don't break on correct inputs… They break on the ones you didn't expect. If you're learning backend development, stop only building for perfect scenarios. Day-122 📘 Python Full Stack Journey – Django Admin Customization & Form Feedback Today I explored how to enhance data presentation in Django Admin and improve user experience after form submission. 🚀 🎯 What I learned today: 📊 Admin Panel – Data Table View Customized Django Admin using ModelAdmin Displayed specific fields in a table format using: class ContactAdmin(admin.ModelAdmin): list_display = ('user_name', 'email_id', 'phone_number') This made the admin panel more structured and easier to manage data 💬 Popup / Response Page After Form Submission Created a popup (response) page to show feedback after form submission Updated views.py to: Validate and save form data Redirect or render a success page after submission if form.is_valid(): form.save() return render(request, 'popup.html') 💡 This improves user experience by confirming that the form was successfully submitted. This session helped me understand how to make applications more user-friendly and organized, both on the admin side and user-facing side. It’s a powerful environment where you can run Python commands in real-time to manipulate your data and test your models without needing a front-end interface. 🔑 Pro-Tip: Changing Superuser Details Ever forgotten your admin password or needed to update a user’s details quickly? Instead of starting over, you can use the shell to make changes directly! How to do it: 1. Access the Shell: Run <python manage.py shell> in your terminal. 2. Import the User Model: from django.contrib.auth.models import User. 3. Fetch the User: user = User.objects.get(username='admin'). 4. Update & Save: user.set_password('newpassword') user.save() 💡 Why this is important Understanding the shell is about more than just fixing mistakes; it’s about efficiency and control. It allows you to: Perform quick CRUD operations. Debug logic errors in your models. Manage administrative tasks directly from the command line. Clean & readable. 🔸 𝙌 𝙊𝙗𝙟𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙨: The Most Valuable Player for "𝙊𝙍" and "𝙉𝙊𝙏" logic. Essential for building real-world search features. I'm loving the challenge of mastering the Django ORM.
