The integration of robots into our daily work environments raises significant questions. As we develop more advanced AI and robotics, we must consider the implications of having these machines operate in real-world settings, potentially interacting with and even directing human tasks. The prospect of taking instructions from a robot manager prompts a reflection on trust, autonomy, and the future of human-robot collaboration. What are the ethical and practical considerations as we move towards a more automated workforce? 🎧 Watch the full episode of What the AI?! AGI gets talked about like it is right around the corner. Rodney Brooks, current CTO of Robust.AI takes a very different view. He has said it could be 300 years away. That is not meant to be provocative. It reflects how different real-world robotics is from software. Robots do not just need intelligence. They need to sense, move, adapt, and operate safely in unpredictable environments. Each of those layers is difficult on its own, and progress in one does not automatically solve the others. It also reframes where value is coming from today. Most useful systems are not general. They are narrow, reliable, and built to do one job well. That is what actually gets deployed, scaled, and trusted in production environments. The gap between what we imagine and what we can consistently build is still wide, and closing that gap is where most of the work is happening. World models are starting to move the AI conversation beyond generation and toward simulation, causality, and operational control. On EDB's podcast, Dr. Seth Dobrin breaks down why that shift matters, especially as AI pushes further into robotics, autonomous systems, and enterprise environments where safe action matters as much as intelligent output. He also makes the enterprise case clearly: in many workflows, smaller domain-specific models may offer a more realistic path to ROI, governance, and control than endlessly scaling model size.
