AI is going to change audience discovery. But not in the way most marketers think. Earlier, audience discovery was manual. You defined interests. Tested segments. Built assumptions. Now AI can do that faster than you ever could. It can analyse behavior. Find patterns. Identify pockets of demand you didn’t even know existed. But here’s the shift. Audience discovery is no longer about finding people. It’s about understanding signals. AI will tell you who is converting. But it won’t tell you why they are converting. And that difference matters. Every ad now has two audiences. One is always missing from briefs. Dentsu forecast that in 2026, 72% of all media investment will be algorithmically driven. For this spend, AI is your first audience. On platforms like Meta, AI looks at your ad before any human does. If it doesn't predict success, it won't show it. Or you'll pay more for the privilege. Most briefs open with "who are we speaking to?" They should also ask: what will the AI think? The better AI can predict success, the more it shows your ad to more of the right people. Strong signals help it make that prediction. Creative diversity means stronger predictions about more people meaning more distribution. Relevance is the new reach.
