Most people use AI for answers. I’ve been using it as a tutor. For the past few months I’ve been experimenting with a simple approach: using AI to structure how I learn, not just answer questions. The difference is bigger than it sounds. Most people interact with AI like this: → ask a question → read the answer → move on That’s useful. But it rarely builds deep understanding. When you structure the interaction differently, AI becomes something else entirely: → a study planner → a testing partner → a feedback loop → a learning coach These are 6 prompts I keep coming back to when I want to learn something faster. ◆ LEARN ANYTHING IN 20 HOURS “I need to learn [topic] fast. Build a 20-hour plan focused on the 20% of concepts that drive 80% of results. Break it into 10 two-hour sessions and include a short review at the end of each.” Most subjects have a few core ideas that unlock the rest. Finding those early saves weeks of scattered learning. ◆ CREATE A ONE-PAGE CHEAT SHEET “Summarize the key concepts of [topic] on a single page. Use bullet points, diagrams, and examples so I can review it in 5 minutes.” If something takes five minutes to review, you’ll revisit it often. That repetition is what turns information into long-term understanding. ◆ TEST YOUR UNDERSTANDING “I just studied [topic]. Ask me progressively harder questions. After each answer, grade it and explain what I missed.” Reading creates the illusion of progress. Testing reveals what you actually know. This turns AI into a practice environment. ◆ BUILD A LEARNING LADDER “Break [topic] into five levels of mastery. Define the skills required at each level and what milestone proves I’m ready to move up.” Most people learn randomly. Experts progress through clear stages of capability. Now you know what progress actually looks like. ◆ FILTER THE BEST RESOURCES “List the most valuable resources for learning [topic] quickly and explain why each is worth studying.” The internet has endless information. Only a small portion is worth your time. This prompt helps you focus on resources that actually move you forward. ◆ USE THE FEYNMAN LOOP “Explain [topic] simply. Then have me explain it back. Identify gaps and reteach what I misunderstood.” One of the fastest ways to learn something is teaching it yourself. This forces your brain to convert information into understanding. The shift is simple but powerful. AI isn’t just a productivity tool. It’s a learning accelerator. The people who move fastest in the next decade won’t just use AI to work faster. They’ll use it to learn faster than everyone else. #AI literacy has evolved from luxury to necessity. Under the EU AI Act, companies have until February 1, 2025 to comply with the Article 4 requirements. What does that mean? They must “take measures to ensure, to their best extent, a sufficient level of AI literacy of their staff” and those acting on their behalf. While there’s little detail on the specifics, the intent is clear: enable those who develop, deploy, and use AI to better understand the technology and, in turn, make more informed decisions to maximize its potential benefits and minimize its potential risks. Here are some framing principles: ▶ Go beyond the basics. A baseline is necessary, but only a starting point. ▶ Appreciate that literacy is multi-dimensional. It should span the swirling mix of technical, business, practical, and ethical implications of AI. ▶ Appreciate that it’s also contextual. There is no one-size-fits-all approach. Instead, literacy should be tailored to different roles to account for different responsibilities, and be cross-functional to reflect the real-world collaboration that #AIgovernance demands. ▶ Prepare for a never-ending journey. The field of AI is dynamic, and continuous learning is critical to stay up-to-date on developments, trends, industry standards, and best practices. Here are some steps to take: ✅ Assess current literacy levels. ✅ Emphasize inclusivity (e.g., because not everyone will be starting at the same place). ✅ Take a holistic, programmatic approach, with foundational content supplemented by tailored learning paths. ✅ Identify champions to embrace the initiative and welcome volunteers who want to contribute to the cause. ✅ Create on-going education opportunities (e.g., through awareness campaigns, reminders, and refreshers). ✅ Create and share resources to supplement training (e.g., newsletters, blogs, and guides). ✅ Consider third-party resources to augment capabilities and broaden horizons (e.g., like those from the IAPP for the #AIGP, or ones I shared here https://lnkd.in/eirmKxD8). ✅ Regularly monitor progress and assess effectiveness. ✅ Document everything for auditability and accountability. Ultimately, embedding AI literacy within your company isn't just a check-box for compliance. It’s how you build a modern workforce to drive responsible innovation and unlock sustainable growth.

Here’s how to make that happen: 1️⃣ Environmental Supports: Build the Framework for Success -Clear Guidance: Define AI’s role in specific tasks. If a tool like Momentum.io automates data entry, outline how it frees up time for strategic activities. -Accessible Tools: Ensure AI tools are easy to use and well-integrated. For tools like ChatGPT create a prompt library so employees don’t have to start from scratch. -Recognition: Acknowledge team members who make measurable improvements with AI, like reducing response times or boosting engagement. Recognition fuels adoption. 2️⃣ Empower with Tiger Team Champions -Use Tiger/Pilot Team Champions: Leverage your pilot team members as champions who share workflows and real-world results. Their successes give others confidence and practical insights. -Role-Specific Training: Focus on high-impact skills for each role. Sales might use prompts for lead scoring, while support teams focus on customer inquiries. Keep it relevant and simple. -Match Tools to Skill Levels: For non-technical roles, choose tools with low-code interfaces or embedded automation. Keep adoption smooth by aligning with current abilities. 3️⃣ Continuous Feedback and Real-Time Learning -Pilot Insights: Apply findings from the pilot phase to refine processes and address any gaps. Updates based on tiger team feedback benefit the entire workforce. -Knowledge Hub: Create an evolving resource library with top prompts, troubleshooting guides, and FAQs. Let it grow as employees share tips and adjustments. -Peer Learning: Champions from the tiger team can host peer-led sessions to show AI’s real impact, making it more approachable. 4️⃣ Just in Time Enablement -On-Demand Help Channels: Offer immediate support options, like a Slack channel or help desk, to address issues as they arise. -Use AI to enable AI: Create customGPT that are task or job specific to lighten workload or learning brain load. Post #9: AI & Data Literacy, the new foundation for trust Most companies say they want to “use AI responsibly.” Fewer ask whether their people are actually ready to. I keep seeing the same pattern: policies, reviews, and tools only go so far. The real differentiator is literacy, not just technical literacy, but organizational literacy: who understands what AI is doing, how data shapes it, and when to ask better questions. Here’s how that shows up in practice 👇 1️⃣ AI literacy: what it is and isn’t It’s not “everyone should learn to code.” It’s helping people understand what AI can do, what it can’t, and how to spot the difference. A product manager who understands generative models at a conceptual level is less likely to overpromise or under-govern. 2️⃣ Data literacy: the unsung sidekick Almost every AI decision starts with data. If teams can’t read a dashboard, interpret a drift metric, or question a training dataset, governance turns into compliance theater. AI & Data literacy is how people see risk before it reaches a review board. 3️⃣ Role-based depth Not everyone needs the same training. Executives: focus on value, risk tiers, and accountability. Builders: focus on model behavior, bias, and observability. Reviewers: focus on interpreting evidence, not just checking boxes. Governance becomes much easier when learning meets people where they are. 4️⃣ Culture of asking “why” A literate organization doesn’t just use AI, it interrogates it. “Why did the model choose that?” “Do we have the right data?” “Should we automate this at all?” When people are confident asking those questions in real meetings, trust starts to scale faster than the technology. 5️⃣ Measure it like any other capability If you don’t measure literacy, it becomes your biggest governance gap. Track AI and data fluency like you track any other critical capability: participation in awareness sessions completion of role-based training quality of model documentation and reviews issues and escalations caught before deployment. The signal isn’t how many models you ship. It’s how many smart decisions you make along the way. AI governance isn’t just about control. It’s about competence. The more your teams understand AI and data, the less you need to slow them down to keep them safe. Enterprises leaders, if you want to embed AI workflows into your system but are overwhelmed with all the information out there, here’s what you should focus on first. Forget all the questions about which model you should pick, the safest vendor and which use case is impressive. Your first challenge should be simpler and more operational: get your organization to use AI in a way that produces reliable work, instead of more noise. If teams do not know how to frame tasks, set constraints, and evaluate outputs, AI becomes a tax. People generate faster drafts, but managers spend more time reviewing, correcting, and reworking. The organization concludes “AI is not ready,” blaming it on model capability when the missing piece is human capability. This is why AI literacy is human capital strategy. It determines whether your organization builds a workforce that can direct AI effectively, or a workforce that uses AI for surface-level speed and creates downstream clean-up. If you want a practical way to build this capability, here is a simple 5-step starting loop you can run this week: 1/ Pick one workflow that repeats weekly (customer responses, internal reporting, onboarding, policy questions). 2/ Write a one-page “good output” rubric for that workflow (what must be true, what must not happen, what needs citation, what requires escalation). 3/ Have the team run AI on the same input, then do a 30-minute review where you grade outputs against the rubric. 4/ Promote the best version to a shared template, and document the failure modes you saw so the next iteration is sharper. 5/ Repeat weekly for four weeks across one workflow at a time, and you will feel the capability shift. If an enterprise wants AI to stick, it cannot just buy tools. It has to build the muscle to use them well. Remember that AI is not a spectator sport, you have to be in it, willing to sweat every single time to have the results you’re aiming for.

I’m a former Deloitte consultant. The AFR story on Deloitte refunding part of a $440k government engagement after errors were found is a clear signal for L&D and HR leaders. The corrected report now discloses AI assistance, but the reputational cost remains. The fix is AI literacy that shows up in daily work, not just in slides. Here is a plan you can run this quarter to prepare your organization for 2026: 1. Define role-based skills. Executives learn value, risk, and decision rights. Practitioners learn prompt patterns, verification, and data lineage. Everyone learns responsible use and disclosure. 2. Build learning pathways. Short modules. Practice in safe sandboxes. Communities of practice. Tie each activity to a business metric. 3. Close the loop. Track defects found in review. Feed them back into training content and prompts. Publish monthly learnings to leaders. Watch-out: training without controls turns into theater. Pair literacy with a disclosure checklist, review gates, and an audit trail. Staying ahead in the age of AI is no longer optional. The pace of change is so rapid that what feels advanced today quickly becomes table stakes tomorrow. I am often asked what my top piece of advice is for professionals who want to stay ahead of the curve. My take is that this must be treated as a journey, not a one-time leap. The key is to stay hands-on, keep learning, and build block by block. Here is a simple framework that I have found effective. 👉 Step 1: Start small Begin with tools that are close to your daily work. For a data engineer, this could mean using AI to generate SQL queries or to automate basic data quality checks. The aim is to build comfort with AI as a co-pilot without stepping too far outside your current skills. 👉 Step 2: Expand gradually Move into areas where AI complements your existing expertise. Try using AI to draft ETL code, accelerate documentation, or design data pipeline components. These are familiar workflows, but now enhanced with AI. 👉 Step 3: Connect the blocks As confidence grows, explore how AI fits across the end-to-end workflow. Use it not only for pipeline creation but also for monitoring, anomaly detection, and validation. This is where the real impact becomes visible, as AI moves from isolated tasks to integrated processes. 👉 Step 4: Scale impact Finally, extend these learnings into advanced areas. Experiment with AI-assisted ML model development, use LLMs to build intelligent data services, or design APIs that make enterprise data more accessible. At this stage, you are no longer just a data engineer using AI. You are becoming an AI-first data professional. The simple mantra is: Stay hands-on, keep learning, and build block by block. AI will continue to evolve, but with this mindset, you will not just keep pace, you will stay ahead. He’s right, and for designers, it changes how we learn, ship, and show proof of skill. Why this matters now: • Tools-first literacy: If you can orchestrate GPT-5, Gemini, or agents, you learn faster than peers who only study. • Assessment is shifting: The UK is piloting AI-assisted exam marking to speed and standardize grading—process and reasoning will matter more than rote answers. What changes for designers: Your AI stack becomes your skillset. Show how you learn on the fly: prompts, workflows, evaluations, and when you don’t automate. Portfolios need learning artifacts. Include a micro-tutor you built, like a GPT workflow that critiques UI states, and show the before and after. Process over polish. Share your critique loops, not just final screens—versions, reasoning, and tradeoffs. Daily drills beat weekend courses. 20 minutes a day with an AI coach is worth more than four hours on Sunday. Collaborative learning. Treat AI like a studio assistant: ask it to question your hierarchy, color, spacing, accessibility, and handoff. Every month, I speak with numerous tech professionals. One surprising observation: many remain stuck at buzzword-level familiarity with generative AI, lacking practical, everyday experience. In contrast, I’m positively surprised by students actively using generative AI tools regularly, building real-world skills. Given today’s rapid pace of technological evolution, occasional or shallow engagement just won’t cut it. Just like physical health relies on daily habits (like walking 10,000 steps), your tech career needs its daily dose of practical learning. Here are two specific, repeatable approaches you can immediately adopt to stay ahead: ✅ 10-Minute Daily Exploration: Set aside 10 minutes each day to practically experiment with a generative AI tool (e.g., ChatGPT, Cursor, Claude). Apply it to solve a simple work-related problem or automate a minor task. ✅ Weekly Mini-Project: Once a week, create something tangible using generative AI—like prototyping an app, building a custom GPT, a RAG or an Agent. Over weeks, these mini-projects compound significantly. Consistency always beats intensity.
