AI won’t replace Project Managers. But it will replace how we work. I’ve been reflecting on where AI is already making a difference in project management—and where it simply can’t. Let’s be honest: AI is already doing a lot of our heavy lifting. Status reports? Done in seconds. Meeting notes? Auto-generated. First drafts of documents? No more blank pages. Risk identification & scheduling? Smarter and faster than ever. And that’s a good thing. Because it frees us up to focus on what truly defines a great Project Manager: 👉 Building stakeholder trust when things get uncertain 👉 Making decisions when data is incomplete 👉 Resolving conflicts that no tool can “calculate” 👉 Leading teams through change, resistance, and ambiguity 👉 Understanding context that no algorithm can fully grasp The real shift is this: AI handles the process. We own the people and the outcomes. In my experience, projects don’t fail because a report was late. They fail because of misalignment, poor communication, or lack of trust. And that’s where we come in. The best PMs going forward won’t compete with AI — they’ll leverage it. Automate the repetitive. Amplify the human. Because at the end of the day, project management is less about tasks… and more about people. #ProjectManagement #AI #Leadership #FutureOfWork #StakeholderManagement #DigitalTransformation #ProgramManagement

All Project Managers… Come to the front. I had a call today with a PM who was knee-deep in an AI implementation. They were frustrated, because the same processes that worked perfectly for their past IT rollouts weren’t working here. And they were right. AI projects aren’t business as usual. They live in a world of probabilities, data drift, and cultural resistance. A Gantt chart won’t solve biased training data. A risk register won’t capture the trust gap when employees don’t understand or believe in AI decisions. When I led a $350M AI modernization program, I learned quickly: the PM role must evolve. We aren’t just managing tasks we’re managing transformations including organizational. That means: Building bridges between engineers, compliance, and business owners. Treating data quality, ethics, and adoption as core success factors. Redefining delivery not as on time and on budget, but as trusted, responsible, and embraced by people. So to every PM stepping into AI: don’t recycle your old playbook. Write a new one. Add Responsible AI, governance, adoption, and iteration as non-negotiables. Because AI isn’t just another project it’s a paradigm shift. And we, as PMs, are the ones who have to lead it. #ProjectManagement #AI #Leadership #DigitalTransformation #ResponsibleAI

Most people think AI will replace project managers. I think the opposite is happening. It is exposing who actually knows how to lead. AI is transforming project management and transformation. But mindset still decides performance. AI is transforming project management. But mindset still decides performance. A few days ago, I spoke about this during a LinkedIn Live conversation. And something interesting kept coming back to me. Not from technology. From running. When I trained for my 5K, I learned something surprising. The body follows the mind. Preparation decides performance long before race day. And the same principle applies in AI-led workplaces. AI is becoming a powerful tool in project management. Predictive dashboards. Automation. Smart workflows. Faster decision support. But tools alone do not deliver outcomes. People do. During the Live session, we discussed a simple idea: The future will not belong to people with the most power tools. It will belong to those who develop the strongest power skills. Because when technology accelerates work, human qualities become even more critical. Here are three parallels between endurance running and modern project leadership: 🏃♀️ Preparation reduces panic In marathon training, you prepare weeks before race day. In projects, structured preparation does the same. Clear plans reduce chaos. When teams are prepared, pressure becomes manageable. ⚙️ Systems reduce stress Runners rely on pacing. Project leaders rely on systems. Predictive dashboards, planning frameworks, and structured reviews create rhythm. Good systems reduce decision fatigue. And they allow teams to focus on execution. 🧠 Belief sustains performance Tools assist. Confidence executes. In the final kilometre of a race, it is never about muscles. It is about belief. The same happens in complex projects. When uncertainty rises, mindset carries the team forward. This is why, even in an AI-powered future, certain skills are becoming more valuable — not less. Change Management. Design Thinking. Project Leadership. These are not technical tools. They are human capabilities. They help teams adapt. They help leaders make sense of ambiguity. And they help organisations move forward without losing direction. AI can optimise workflows. But it cannot replace: Judgment. Integrity. Consistency. The future will belong to professionals who combine technology with emotional steadiness. Who build systems. But also build resilience. Because in the end, performance still begins in the mind. 👉 Are you training your mindset as intentionally as you train your skill set? P.S. I’ll soon be moderating a session with a senior industry AI leader to explore how AI is reshaping leadership and project management. Excited to be part of these conversations. More details soon.

🔥 Is the IT Project Management Profession Dying? I’ve noticed something unsettling… most IT projects today run with minimal PM involvement, yet somehow still “get delivered.” Are we slowly becoming irrelevant? After long years managing IT projects across multiple sectors, I’ve seen trends that worry me—and excite me at the same time. The reality is stark: traditional PM roles are being challenged by AI tools, agile frameworks, and self-organizing teams. 📉 Before: PMs were gatekeepers of timelines, budgets, and deliverables. Everyone looked to us for guidance. 👉 After: Teams now rely on dashboards, automated workflows, and AI-driven insights. Our role as the “controller” is fading. But here’s the twist… the PM profession isn’t dying—it’s evolving. The leaders who survive aren’t just task managers—they’re strategic navigators, translating complexity into clarity, coaching teams through ambiguity, and driving value beyond the plan. For example, a client recently replaced a traditional PM with an AI-driven dashboard. The project hit deadlines, yes… but stakeholder satisfaction plummeted. Human insight, empathy, and adaptive decision-making still matter. ✅ Key Takeaways: ☑ Shift from controlling to coaching ↳ immediately improve team engagement and trust. ☑ Leverage AI, don’t fear it ↳ streamline reporting while focusing on high-impact decisions. ☑ Develop strategic influence ↳ guide stakeholders through uncertainty, not just tasks. ☑ Invest in emotional intelligence ↳ resolve conflicts and inspire your teams effectively. ☑ Continuously upskill ↳ stay relevant in a rapidly changing IT landscape. 💡 What surprised me most is how “soft skills” are becoming the hardest currency in IT project management. The PM who can combine tech savvy with human judgment will define the next decade. 💬 My question to you: Are traditional PM skills still enough, or is it time to reinvent ourselves? Share your experience—I’ll reply with insights from real projects. ⌦ Repost to spread the message with PM Community. ⌦ Follow Mohamed R. for more. #ProjectManagement #ITLeadership #DigitalTransformation #CareerGrowth #MohamedRushdi

Today’s the last Monday of 2025. 🤔 As always, I’m traveling. And if you travel often, you know this truth: airports create waiting time… and waiting time creates reflection. Sitting at the gate, watching people rush to their next destination, one thought keeps looping in my mind: The future of our profession #projectmanagement. Actually, scratch that. Not the future. The present. 🤔 Because what we used to call “the future of project management” is already here. Gartner Group predicted that by 2030, up to 80% of project management tasks would be replaced by artificial intelligence. In 2026, that’s no longer a bold prediction. It’s a lived reality. AI is already: • Building and optimizing schedules • Tracking and predicting risks • Generating status reports and dashboards • Forecasting delays before teams feel them • Summarizing meetings, actions, and performance, in seconds And it’s doing it faster, cheaper, and more consistently than humans ever could. #OMG So let me ask the question many professionals are quietly avoiding: What are you going to do with your profession? Let’s be very clear; this is not hype. This is not fear-mongering. And this is absolutely not a joke. 🥹 If your value as a Project Manager is still defined by: • Creating Gantt charts • Chasing updates • Producing reports • Policing process compliance • Reacting after problems explode Then AI is not coming for your role. It already has it. But here’s the part most people miss and where the real opportunity lives: 👉 AI replaces tasks, not leadership. 👉 AI automates execution, not judgment. 👉 AI predicts scenarios, but it does not decide purpose, ethics, or trade-offs. The Project Manager of the 2030s will not be a task coordinator. They will be a value architect. A decision orchestrator. A human sense-maker in an AI-powered world. AI will tell us: • What is happening • What might happen next But Project Managers must answer: • What should we do? • Why does it matter? • What are the consequences—financial, human, ethical, strategic? This profession is not dying. But it is being exposed. Those who evolve will elevate their influence, credibility, and impact. Those who don’t will quietly fade into automation. ⚠️ This is the inflection point. Take it seriously. Let’s talk 👇 Do you believe AI will elevate the Project Manager role or eliminate most of it? What skills are you intentionally building to stay relevant in the 2026 and beyond? #FutureOfWork #AITransformation #ArtificialIntelligence #AIDriven #DigitalTransformation #DrTonyPrensa767

Will AI replace project managers? In most cases, the concern is understandable. AI is beginning to take on work that has traditionally sat with project teams. Status updates, documentation, schedule tracking, and even early risk identification can now be supported, and in some cases accelerated, by AI-enabled tools. That shift is real. But it is also important to separate task automation from role replacement. Project management, at its core, has never been defined by reporting or administrative output. Those activities are necessary, but they are not where projects succeed or fail. The more consequential parts of the role tend to sit elsewhere. They sit in how a project manager interprets ambiguity. - How they define scope to ensure the team is solving the right problem. - How they navigate competing priorities across functions. - How they build alignment when there is no clear agreement. - How they recognize risk early, not just when it appears in a report. These are not easily automated. They require judgment, context, and experience within an organization’s operating environment. What is more likely is a shift in how the role is performed. AI will reduce the time required for lower-value tasks. It will improve visibility into project data. It will allow project managers to process more information, more quickly, and in a more structured way. That creates a different expectation. Project managers will be able to operate at a higher level of effectiveness, but only if they adapt. The role becomes less about managing artifacts and more about managing outcomes. Less about producing updates and more about interpreting them. Over time, this will likely create a wider separation between project managers. Those who incorporate AI into their workflow will be able to handle more complexity with greater clarity. They will spend more time on decision-making, stakeholder alignment, and forward-looking risk management. Those who do not may find that the baseline expectations of the role have shifted beyond their current way of working. This is not a new pattern. Similar dynamics have played out in other disciplines as tools have evolved. The highest-performing individuals are not replaced. They become more effective. Project management appears to be moving in that same direction. AI is unlikely to replace project managers. It will, however, change what effective project management looks like.

AI changed the PM role as we know it. PMs who adapt will be in high demand. The PM role has been about process management. But a new group of project managers is emerging. They're using AI to speed up admin work, and turning their focus to strategic leadership. Most of what project managers do manually today is exactly what AI tools are getting good at: - Status report generation - Project planning and scheduling - Budget tracking and forecasting - Risk monitoring and alerts - Team capacity planning AI can already automate these PM tasks. The technology will only get better. I recently spoke with several executives. They are already moving basic PM tasks to AI. When AI can generate project plans, track budgets, and monitor risks automatically, what happens to the old-school PM role? Simple projects won't need dedicated PMs anymore. AI will handle the basic administrative PM work. We're already seeing this change. But there's a big opportunity here too. AI has a major blind spot. It can't figure out the tricky psychology of team dynamics. It can't handle complex stakeholder politics. It can't connect business goals to what motivates the team. AI can't lead and handle people's problems. → Simple projects: PM roles mix into other roles → Complex enterprises: Strategic PM roles become key Most valuable projects are complex and people-focused. Want to stay relevant? Here's what to think about. Learn how to handle team dynamics ↳ Navigate politics, egos, and conflicting priorities Master stakeholder management and communication ↳ Make sure everyone agrees on what success looks like Study how turn business goals into team motivation ↳ Work with people to get them excited about the project Direct AI with human context ↳ Give AI the right instructions and priorities to work with The PM industry isn't dead. But it is changing. ♻️ Share this to help other project managers. Follow me Alex Barady and my company ENDGAME for pragmatic AI strategies and execution.
