    WebMCP in Chrome: The biggest shift in technical SEO in years. The same skills that made sites readable by crawlers will now make them actionable for AI agents. This is structured data 2.0 for the agentic web. Google just previewed #WebMCP in Chrome 146 and for technical SEOs, this could be the biggest evolution of its discipline in years. 🔎 Think about the origins of technical SEO.... Crawlers couldn't interpret websites alone; hence the creation of sitemaps, robots.txt, canonical tags, and schema markup. WebMCP draws a direct parallel, except the audience is AI agents, not crawlers. Sites can now use two API approaches, Declarative and Imperative, to expose specific actions that agents can call directly. You decide what's available, you set the rules. The use cases are real. Retailers structuring purchase journeys, travel brands opening booking as a callable flow, software companies making support agent ready. ⚡ ·       This is being built as an open W3C standard with Microsoft and Google co-authoring the proposal. It's not exclusive to Chrome. Firefox, Safari, and Edge are involved in the working group, with implementations still to come. ·       WebMCP is built to work across AI models and platforms. #ChatGPT already supports MCP servers for connecting to tools like Google Workspace, Notion, and local files. OpenAI has shipped "Connectors" in ChatGPT using the protocol, and browser-level extensions now let users plug MCP servers into virtually any chat interface.     Most websites think they're optimized until Googlebot hits a wall. Broken links, redirect chains, blocked assets, outdated sitemaps, or a misconfigured robots.txt file can prevent search engines from accessing key pages. These issues waste crawl budget, break internal linking, and reduce index coverage. And that means fewer pages in search results, weaker topical authority, and lower rankings. Crawl errors come in two forms: site-level (like DNS failures or server timeouts) and URL-level (like 404s, soft 404s, or blocked resources). They often show up as HTTP status codes (404, 503), noindex directives, disallowed folders, or mismatched canonicals. Each of these errors disrupts how bots move through your site, and if left unresolved, they can lead Google to deprioritize your content altogether. The fix starts with visibility. Use Google Search Console to inspect individual URLs and review crawl stats. Then run a full technical audit with Semrush. Its site audit tool will highlight broken links, 5xx errors, redirect loops, blocked assets, and conflicting directives. From there, clean up internal links, eliminate redirect chains, correct robots.txt issues, and make sure your sitemap only includes valid, indexable pages. If you’re not auditing regularly, crawl issues pile up. Technical SEO isn’t just backend housekeeping: it’s foundational to visibility. Search engines can’t rank what they can’t crawl.     We took a supplements brand from toxic backlinks and broken redirects to massive traffic growth in 6 months. The site was a technical mess when we started.     My Simple Technical SEO Checklist: Most websites fail before content or backlinks even matter. Why? Because technical SEO is broken — and they don’t know it. 1. Make sure your site is mobile-friendly → Check how it looks and loads on your phone → Use Google Mobile-Friendly Test 2. Speed up your site → Slow sites get punished by Google and bounce users → Use Google PageSpeed Insights or GTmetrix 3. Fix broken links (404 errors) → Broken pages = bad UX and lost SEO value → Use [Ahrefs Site Audit] or [Screaming Frog] 4. Secure your site with HTTPS → Sites without SSL (padlock icon) = major trust issue → Make sure your domain has an SSL certificate 5. Submit a sitemap to Google → Helps Google crawl and understand your site → Use [Google Search Console] > Sitemaps section 6. Clean up your URL structure → Short, clear URLs rank and get clicked more → Example: /services/seo is better than /page?id=83xyz 7.
