    Big shift in robotics: NVIDIA just open-sourced Isaac Sim and Isaac Lab. Isaac Sim has already been a cornerstone for high-fidelity robotics simulation—RTX-accelerated physics, realistic lidar/camera simulation, domain randomization, ROS/URDF support, and synthetic data pipelines. Now, it’s all on GitHub with full source access. But the real multiplier? The release of Isaac Lab—a modular, open reinforcement learning and robot control framework built directly on top of Isaac Sim. It comes with ready-to-use robots (Franka, UR5, ANYmal), training loops, and environments for manipulation, locomotion, and more. What’s different now: *You’re no longer limited to APIs—developers can modify physics, sensors, and control logic at the source level. *Isaac Lab provides a training-ready foundation for sim-to-real robotics, speeding up learning pipelines dramatically. *Debugging, benchmarking, and custom integrations are now transparent, flexible, and community-driven. *Collaboration across research and industry just got easier—with reproducible environments, tasks, and results.     Build your first robot in simulation! 👾 📌 If you’re self-learning robotics, this is genuinely one of the better repos to save for later. NVIDIA Robotics released a "Getting Started with Isaac Sim" tutorial series covering everything from building your first robot to hardware-in-the-loop deployment. What's inside? → Building Your First Robot Explore the Isaac Sim interface, construct a simple robot model (chassis, wheels, joints), configure physics properties, implement control mechanisms using OmniGraph and ROS 2, integrate sensors (RGB cameras, 2D lidar), and stream sensor data to ROS 2 for real-time visualization in RViz. → Ingesting Robot Assets Import URDF files, prepare simulation environments, add sensors to existing robot models, and access pre-built robots to accelerate development. → Synthetic Data Generation Learn perception models for dynamic robotic tasks, understand synthetic data generation, apply domain randomization with Replicator, generate synthetic datasets, and fine-tune AI perception models with validation. → Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) Build intelligent robots, implement SIL workflows, use OmniGraph for robot control, master Isaac Sim Python scripting, deploy image segmentation with ROS 2 and Isaac ROS, and test with and without simulation. → Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) Understand HIL fundamentals, learn NVIDIA Jetson platform, set up the Jetson environment, and deploy Isaac ROS on Jetson hardware. The progression makes sense: start with basics (build a robot), add perception (sensors and data), generate training data (synthetic generation), develop software (SIL), then deploy to hardware (HIL). Each module builds on the previous one. For robotics teams, this is the path to faster iteration.     Let's reverse engineer this demo. You need 3 things: (1) robust hardware and motor designs that treat simulation as first-class citizen; (2) a human motion capture ("mocap") dataset, such as those for film and gaming characters; (3) massively parallel RL training in GPU-accelerated simulation. Last October, our team trained a 1.5M parameter foundation model called HOVER for such agile motor control. It follows this recipe, roughly speaking: (1) Simulation used to be an after-thought. Now, it has to be part of the hardware design process. If your robot doesn't simulate well, you can kiss RL goodbye. Hardware-simulation co-design is a very interesting emergent topic that only becomes meaningful with today's compute capability. (2) Human mocap dataset to produce natural-looking walking and running gaits. That's one huge advantage of using humanoid robot - you get to imitate from tons of human motions that were originally captured for movies or AAA games. At least 3 ways to use the data: - For initialization: pre-train the neural net to imitate human, and then finetune it into the robot form factor with physics turned on; - For reward function: penalize any deviations from the target pose; - For representation learning: treat the human poses as a "motion prior" to constrain the space of robot behaviors. (3) Shove the above into Isaac sim, add a lot of randomization, pump it through PPO, throw in a bunch of GPUs, and then watch Netflix till loss converges.     Hello 👋 from the Automate Show in downtown Detroit. I’m excited to share with you what I’m learning. Robotics is undergoing a fundamental transformation, and NVIDIA is at the center of it all. I've been watching how leading manufacturers are deploying NVIDIA's Isaac platform, and the results are staggering: Universal Robotics & Machines UR15 Cobot now generates motion faster with AI. Vention is democratizing machine motion for businesses. KUKA has integrated AI directly into their controllers. But what's truly revolutionary is the approach: 1. Start with a digital twin In simulation, companies can deploy thousands of virtual robots to run experiments safely and efficiently. The majority of robotics innovation is happening in simulation right now, allowing for both single and multi-robot training before real-world deployment. 2. Implement "outside-in" perception Just as humans perceive the world from the inside out, robots need their own sensors. But the game-changer is adding "outside-in" perception - like an air traffic control system for robots. This dual approach is solving industrial automation's biggest challenges. 3. Leverage generative AI Factory operators can now use LLMs to manage operations with simple prompts: "Show me if there was a spill" or "Is the operator following the correct assembly steps?" Pegatron is already implementing this with just a single camera. They're creating an ecosystem where partners can integrate cutting-edge AI into existing systems, helping traditional manufacturers scale up through unprecedented ease of use. The most powerful insight? Just as ChatGPT reached 100 million users in 9 days, robotics adoption is about to experience its own inflection point. The barriers to entry are falling. The technology is becoming accessible even for mid-sized and smaller companies. And the future is being built in simulation before transforming our physical world.     The ros2_SimRealRobotControl [1] repository is a collection of ROS 2 packages that are designed to facilitate robot manipulation tasks. The packages include Gazebo Simulation, MoveIt!2, and Robot Bringup, all of which can be used to simulate and control robot manipulators. The Gazebo Simulation package provides a simulation environment for robot manipulators, allowing users to test and develop control algorithms in a virtual environment before deploying them on a physical robot.     For simulation to be viable for robotics, especially for creating AI-generated robot behavior, it is critical that robot behaviors created in simulation can be seamlessly translated to the real world AND the data from the real world can get back to that simulation! This allows for closed-loop learning of robot behaviors in simulation, using information about how the system actually performs. In this latest video, we show how READY Robotics' ForgeOS and NVIDIA Omniverse can provide this closed loop, by enabling robot programming in simulation, seamless transfer to the real world, and providing a path for data to be sent back to simulation. For modern AI algorithms to perform correctly, they need data not just of the robot's movements, but everything that the robot interacts with in its environment. This is why ForgeOS not only sends robot motion back to Omniverse but also the state of all of the tooling, as shown by the tool changer's behavior being accurately represented when mirroring the real system. ForgeOS is also able to surface sensor data, machine state, object locations, and more from the real system back to Omniverse. The ability to exfiltrate the traditionally siloed data in a robotic cell in the factory is something that ForgeOS does out of the box, without any additional IoT devices, and it ties directly back to NVIDIA's Isaac Sim. #ai #ml #manufacturing #robotics #automation #futureofwork

Developed by a team from UC Berkeley, Google DeepMind, and other leading institutions, MuJoCo Playground is a fully open-source framework revolutionizing robotic learning and deployment. This tool enables rapid simulation, training, and 𝘇𝗲𝗿𝗼-𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘁 𝘀𝗶𝗺-𝘁𝗼-𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗲𝗿 across diverse robotic platforms. MuJoCo Playground supports quadrupeds, humanoids, dexterous hands, and robotic arms, train reinforcement learning policies in minutes on a single GPU, and streamline vision-based and state-based policy training with integrated batch rendering and a powerful physics engine.     Honestly, I still have those "how is this my job?" moments. I’m just a robotics nerd who gets to spend his days talking to people building machines that actually move and think. It never gets old. But here’s the thing....most of this work doesn’t start with a "solution." It starts with just sitting down and listening...which I do pretty well!! When we first connected with the team at Oversonic, we didn't lead with timelines or a pitch deck. We just talked about their robot, RoBee. How it sees the world, where it’s struggling, and what parts of the build were keeping them up at night. That’s the stuff that usually gets skipped because everyone wants to rush to the "we can build that" phase, but that’s also where the real problems hide. The FS Studio team spent a lot of time just getting aligned. We had these deep-dive working sessions, real-deal engineering talk about sensors, locomotion, and what they couldn't afford to risk testing on actual hardware. Once we stopped guessing, the path was pretty clear. We built a high-fidelity digital twin of RoBee in NVIDIA Isaac Sim, plugged in the full sensor stack through ROS 2, and got an Isaac Lab environment running. The goal wasn't just a cool-looking demo; it was making sure the data flowed exactly how their engineers needed it to so they could actually use it day-to-day without being blocked by hardware cycles. The tech is cool, sure. But it only works when you actually trust the people you're building with. When that clicks, everything moves faster and the risk actually drops.
